|
|
| ok right now for me to get around i prefere riding bmx bike, not stunting or anything really but just to get from point a to point b along with a few curb jumps but anyhow i have to buy cheap bikes as i have no money and i bought a next chaos bmx bike a few months ago from wally world and now that thing is falling apart there are so many things and the brakes use to work good now they totaly sucked and broke on me so i just stripped both brakes off and now im riding brakeless, lightweight but brakeless. and i dont like it scary as hell for me as i ride miles and miles hauling azz down hills wherever and now i have no way to stop expet to try to stop the tire but that only is possible at times. and i was going to return the bike and get something diffrent but i cant find the receit (how ever you spell that) so im screwed. so Question is does anyone have a decent shape bmx bike that they dont use that is a fairly good brand like fit or kink or something that they can give away and are close or sell for cheap? thanks. |

Try your local junk shops and thrift stores. When I was about your age the local Goodwill store would sell you bikes for five bucks apiece. I got a twenty for my birthday and promptly went down there and bought four bikes.
I ended up with a perfect Huffy BMX frame, and a bunch of other parts. I had that bike for years in several different iterations. I swapped to fullsize clamp brakes, and even ran a 3-speed hub transmission off of a fullsize bike for awhile. |

Walk there, buy them all at once. Hide them in the bushes. Push one at a time back up the hill to my house.
Once I talked my Dad into letting me throw them into the trunk of his car. Once. |

You want to put new brakes on your Mother's car, but you can't figure out how to fix the brakes on your bike?
Take it apart. Look at it. Figure out what failed. Fix it. Not having experience with something is no excuse for not being able to fix it.
If a cable is frayed, that means a loose setscrew, or a problem with the sheath. |

thats the thing if i do find the recipt i'll just return it because its not only the brakes that are a problem on the bike so i really dont wanna put money into it because i know i have the recipt somewhere around here. |

| Take the money you get back from that and go buy two or three of those Goodwill bikes. Strip them all down to the frame, and sort out the components by type. Paint the frame the color you want, then reassemble using the best or most compatable of each component. |

Portland is like the bicycle capitol of the country. Do a google search. Tons of new and used bicycle shops pop up. Go check out the ones closest to you.
Fixing a bicycle or lawnmower is where most of us got our start in mechanics. You won't know how at first, but what you screw up you'll figure out how to fix.. or you dont go anywhere! Same thing with your car when you get there. You'll either need money to pay someone to fix it, or you'll have to figure it out yourself.
Brakes are a pretty simple thing. Sounds like you have caliper style brakes that grip the wheel? Hand lever pulls cable, cable pulls caliper, and the brake pads move against the wheel. Figure out what's stopping it and fix it.
Maybe wallyworld will take it back, but after its been broke and taken apart I doubt it. You may have to figure out how to make do. |

I did a 200mm disc brake swap on my mtn bike a few months ago. Oh man it stops so nice now! Even in the rain I can stop on a dime.
I agree with these guys. Get some cheap bikes and start messing around with them. Bike shops and craigslist have tons of cheap/used parts. _________________

no there just usual cheap brakes i think the front is a u style brake and the rear is a linear (not sure how to spell it). im really not sure how to explain the problem.
i'm going try to rig it to look like it wasnt tooken apart if possible i had it back on to the bike all the way almost to the rear pads but right before the mechanism the metal on the brake line one of the metal strands got pushed away from the rest and created which kinda looks like a spring. i'll go out there and try to put it back on later. |

even though its confusing... that's the only your ever going to learn plus it's fun when you know you've learned something new and you won't need people to help every time you want to work on something

I think I came up with the perfect solution!!
Go to the second hand store and trade your computer for a bike.
