700R4 is going south, I scored 5 speed 'pedals' from Chris, (emphasize on the "d") lol
But I need a bell housing, an actual tranny, a shifter plate, and hydaulics.
Keep your eyes pealed for me! _________________

| That would be nice, but being an '84 it will have a cable driven speedo, and its a non World-Class. |

He's right on the Non-WC, but the speedo part is easy to convert. _________________ 92 Camaro

WC = World Class, as I understand it was a buzz-word at the time for a way of doing business, but that's when the tranny was upgraded with some better internals.

Worth a call based on that price alone. |
Is that out of a 4 wheel drive or something? I haven't seen one with the shifter in the middle before. |

Whoop, it is. I actually bothered to load the images this time. Never mind then, no wonder he's unloading it so cheap. |

The speed sensor fits in the older 83 and up trannys the same as the speedo gear, it's a direct swap. Finding the speed sensor is a whole differant story. If I remember right the camaro used a speedo cable after they went to an electric speedo, used some sort of buffer box or something. The Firebird went to an electric speedo in 87 and it was just a plug in on the speed sensor on the transmission. I finally bought a whole transmission from the junk yard just to to get that speed sensor for Jenn's bird. At least a couple years ago nobody was making one that you could buy, some parts stores could produce part numbers but couldn't order one. Maybe Ian could check to see if it can be had from GM.
If you end up needing a bird speed sensor let me know, I junked a firebird this summer that had one in it, so I have a spare.
As for the world class thing, they are stronger. The one I bought from the junkyard is a WC out of a V6 and there is quite a bit more reinforcment in the case. Plus there were a couple differances in bearings. Not going to be a big differance, but would be the prefered way to go. I wouldn't pass up a good deal on an older non-WC though, I have been running one for the last five years with great luck, and that's with 300 rwhp. Run a 13.0 on slicks with it. Only time it broke was at Cows a couple years ago with a busted shift fork. Nothing says fun like a 350 mile drive home with 4.10 gears and no overdrive. The T5 isn't as pathetic as people make them out to be, plus there are about 30 - 40 lbs lighter and $800 cheaper than a T56. |

I have everything but the actual t-5. 2 bell housings, 1 set of pedels ( clutch/brake pedal) complete hydaulic setup( resevoir hard lines master and slave cylenders with mounting bracket) and 2 electric speedo sensors. left over from installing a w/c t-5 in my t/a. _________________

It seems the T5's can definetly take more abuse than 700R4's (in stock form at least).
Big D- You ever in the Portland area for any reason? |
