Some of the 4x4's are down right scary.
Although, IIRC, the guy who did those welded up turbo/muffler combo things, actually ran pretty well. Hard to call it a fail when the car performed great, with a wacky integrated remote-mount-turbo-muffler combo thingy. |

ditto. I don't see what's so wrong with that. He built it because he wanted to have a sleeper. I remember reading the build thread on Stangnet or somewhere similar. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

I suspect that some of the 4X4s might actually be built for mud bog racing where that kind of ground clearance might be required for splashing through a 5 ft deep mud hole.
If I'm correct, then it seems as though the real fail is at jalopnik dot com.
some of the welds looked horrible, but again were those practice welds from billybobs school of weldin' or were some of those header pipes meant to be the working end product.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes a few words can put a picture into true perspective. |

Flea, ya don't "practice" on a vehicle!
The Muffler Turbo thing... you're all talking about this pic?

maybe its just a west virginia thing then.
I just sorta figured that since there were so many different ones that there must be a real reason. guess its just epidemic of stupid people then.
Wish I had a digital camera and I'd show you the 80's monte carlo here in town. |

ya i think ...........lmao.....i've had more than a few big 4x4's and i would never put 2 foot blocks under leafs, or use steel square tubes as shackles. as far as the 2 1/2 ton axle that would have been great had they used modified rig leafs. and the manafold things and turbos?????? NO.....

ok but look at that rig again it doesn't have the entire upper body resting on 2ft. blocks.....it actually looks like one of those industrial boom lifts with a custom perch built ontop of it....and if thats what it is then in has a massive amount of counter weight to keep it from falling over.....
btw, i ruitinely drove my 7in lifted 88 wagoneer through bogg holes up at woodland bottoms with no problems.... that thing is just overkill..... _________________

| Well I didn't say it was pretty, or even the best design possible. Just that this type of thing may well have been the plan all along and as such not necessarily a "fail" unlike those welds. but rather purpose built though be it homemade. the one in the vid. did look like a man lift of some sort where as the ones in the pics looked like some one slapped a car chassis ontop but the same principle. |
