i just installed my new t5. but my old one was a mechanical speedo and the new one is an electric one out of an 88 firebird. so i need an electric speedo including everything from the gauge to the tranny plug.
Please pm me with what you've got and how much

Pull the speed sensor out of the new transmission and put the cable speedo drive from the old transmission in. Hook your speedometer cable back up and your done. The transmission cases are the same for either speedo.

I did the opposite when I put the T5 out of an 83 into an 87 Firebird. Plus you should be able to get a few bucks out of the electric speed sensor as they are hard to find.

we were going to do that but when we looked at the little gear on the electric speedo it was bigger than the other one and with a drifferent angle to the teeth. so we desided not to.

You're probably gonna have to change the speedo gear anyway, unless the car you got your news trans out of had the same rear gears.

Do what Rod said. Use your Bullet from the old T5 and put it on the new. Camaro's didn't go electricspeedo until 1990 and the entire dash is different. So you can't just swap in a different speedometer.

All the F-body T5's I've see have a blue 7 tooth gear on the mainshaft. Even the VSS ones. You should be able to just put your old bullet and driven gear in.

I stand corrected. Must be a 700R4 thing.

I only had to change driven gears in my 700R4 when I went from 3.23 to 3.73.

700R4 were used in alot of things and maintain the same shape really, while the F-body T5 is just that, F-Body only. Might be the difference.

The S10's used the same transmission, just had the shifter in a different spot?

TH-350 uses the same "bullet" that houses the trans gear for the T-5 also FYI.

I'm not 100% if the TH-400 does too, but since they're pretty similar I would assume so.

Hondaslayer, do you know what your rear gear ratio is?

Go here: http://www.bgsoflex.com/speedo1.html

Then here: http://www.cascadecrew.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5194

Once you know your ring/pinion, tire size , and the size of your gear on the main shaft of the transmission, you can figure the correct speedometer gear to get.

THAT WILL PROBABLY TAKE ME A WHILE TO FIND OUT. oops. but i'll try and check on that as soon as i can. i don't know how much the ratio difference between the rear and the tranny are but driving around it feels a whole lot stronger and smoother than before.....
oh ya. don't i just have to crack open the pumpkin and count the gears on the ring and pinion to find the ratio?

He needs to reuse the speedo gear that came out of the original transmission.

End of story.

Travis, The S-10's had T5's as did the 5.0L Mustanges, Chevettes, and several other cars.

F-Body T5's are clocked at something like a 12º Counter Clockwise rotation. The tail is modified to accept a flat crossmember (trans mount is clocked 12º clockwise on trans to make up the difference). This is all done to move the shifter stickout closer to the driver allowing space for the e-brake handle.

I thought that basically all the T-5's are all similar in name only?

Similar. They are all Borg Warner 5 speeds. There are many variations depending on year, make, model.
