This a single fan setup or dual? TPI still?

If so one sensor in the cylinder head will be for the temp gauge and one on the other cylinder head will be for the fan. Each are single wire. Make sure you've got the right sensor hooked to the right wire. They wont work backwards because one is variable (temp gauge) and one is a switch (fans).

On the intake there are two sensors on the front, the big square plug one is for the cold start injector (don't know the year off hand so I can't verify you have it or not) the other sensor is oval plugged and for the ECM temp.

Hope this helps.

When you swapped motors, did you swap the senders and put them in the new motor on the proper head?

That could be your problem. Go find that other engine and get the right sending units and put them in the right spot!
