Got level space, a jack and four stands? 700R4 isn't a hard swap. |

Depends on how small you are, and how well you work cramped. You really only need enough height to get the tranny in and out. With a stick it's even easier. I did the SM465 swap on my Blazer without lifting it at all. Tiny little tranny that is. |

Bench press
I have six jack stands and a 2 ton floor jack if you feel you need to use them. Depending on when, I'm not too awful far away. It shouldn't be too much more difficult than the T-5 _________________ 92 Camaro

They make an adapter for a floor jack that has a flat surface.
Or you could bench-press it |

Got a crappy little Harbor Freight tranny jack with straps sitting in the garage if you need to borrow it. |

Can't he put a piece of 1/2 inch plywood under the pan and balance the tranny on the floor jack? I've installed transmissions about 10 times into various cars. Every time I did it by myself by balancing the trans on a floor jack.
The only trans that took serious effort was a Dodge 3/4 ton 4-speed & transfer case swap into a '70 Bronco. That was pure hell even with 2 people, a jack, and wood blocks. That was a dangerous install because of the massive weight and lack of balance. |

Next two weekends for me are quite full. Having help chasing an intermittent electrical problem in the alarm next weekend, and probably giving Richster a hand the following. Hard to say after that. If you can't wait that long, you're sure welcome to come and borrow the stuff. |

Done it that way too, before I bought the other jack. It works well, but it can get a little tippy sometimes. |

No bench pressing an auto. That's too much weight to maneuver safely.
You need to get the car up high enough to clear the bellhousing of the trans when you slide it out. Personally I get the car high enough that I can slide the jack and trans under as one whole assembly so I don't have to load the trans onto the jack whilst under the car.
Pretty straight forward. Follow the Chilton if you get stuck. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |
