| As long as it's at TDC, and you know where #1 is, the length of the wire is really not important. If one is to long, just swap it with one that's a little bit to short. |

All the odd numbered cylinders are on the drivers side.
Even numbered cylinders on the passenger.
as for the wires, do what aaron suggested.
you'll be fine _________________

Turn the motor over by hand until you see the intake valve on the driver side front cylinder (#1) closes. Then continue to turn the motor over by hand until the timing mark on the balancer reaches 0º on the timing pointer.
Then drop your distributor in. Where ever the rotor is pointing, the #1 spark plug wire needs to be connected to.
Doesn't matter where in the plane of 360º as long as the above.
The distributor will only go in one of two ways because of the oil pump drive at the bottom. However, you can use a long flathead screw driver to turn the oil pump to whatever angle you want.
Typically people setup the distributor so that the rotor is facing the #1 cyl. So turn the oil pump until you have it so when the dizzy is in, the rotor faces said direction. Again, it really doesn't matter. |
