Initial info here:
I pulled the starter today, and took it apart.
There was nothing wrong with it as near as I could tell.
The bearings at either end of the armature spun freely, smoothly and noiselessly.
There were no shavings or particles anywhere. It was clean.
When I hooked up jumper cables to it, it snapped on, spun, and retracted when I lifted the jumper claw. It made no noise, did not hesitate, and started repeatedly.
It did, after a few minutes, get pretty hot, tho.
It acted like a normal starter in every respect.
It did not, however, have starter bolts. It has regular 3/8's bolts. And there is no way to hook up a bracket on the back end of the starter.
The starter looks just like this:

Suggestions would be helpful. _________________ "Are you guys ready? Let's roll."

| You can't see the inside of the bendix/starter drive, or take it apart. It will still make a horrible squeeling racket or ratcheting noise if its bad. It won't make the noise without a load on it. If the flywheel teeth are good, and its still making this noise, I'd say its the drive. |
