Has anyone actually broken a rear end? How did it break? Posts have been low lately so I wanna hear some carnage stories. Like broken cases, shredded gears, snapped axles, and cracked carriers. _________________ E30

Ive seen pics of stripped gears.
Ive seen a pic of a cracked case (my guess was casting flaw on it).
My guess for yours will be stripped gears. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

I broke a pinion shaft bolt and welded it to the spider gear in my last auburn. The LT1 made me do it. Made a horrible noise when a tire broke traction.... *shudder* I mushroomed all sorts of stuff trying to pound that shaft out. I might still have it somewhere too. _________________ E30

| Nothing really broke, but I had a South Side lift bar come loose on the rear of my '68 El Camino at 70 mph. Four wheel steering and only in control of two wheels. That was scary! There was a huge white cloud of tire smoke behind me on the freeway from the tire rubbing in the wheel well. |

Don't know if it really counts, I didn't break my axle from too much power...
I had the help of a conveniently placed tree.

Broken 3 rears the 10 bolt grenaded the first launch on sticky mickeys there was nothing salvageable but luckly the c clips didn't come loose I pulled the cover off and scrapped everything out with my hand into buckets lol. My pops had to come drive all the way to seattle from his place out on the west end to come pick me up I remember sitting with my buddy out in front of Seattle raceways for about 6 hours until the trailer came. I promised myself from that point on I would trailer the car to the track cause it was just to far to come without one. _________________

I plan on trailering mine for that same reason. I'm an hour away from a track where I live and I don't want to go through the pain of having to find a trailer last minute and THEN go get it. |
