So I finally found a 4l60e for my car. It looks like its a good tranny. Didnt see any leaks, it came from a side-swipped ride rather then head on taking the risk of front/rear jar.

Anyway, I have heard that the 700r4/4l60's is one of the easiest trans to rebuild. Id like to possibly put in the extra planitary gear. Maybe new clutch packs and and servo.

Also, does the factory 3rd gen 700r4 shifter cable bolt right up to the 60e, or do I need a 4th gen one?

Any tips on installing a 60e into a 3rd gen? Yes I have the computer to control it.

I didn't think the 4L60E used a cable at all. I thought they were all VSS by then.

Checkout Probuilt Automatics. They'll help you with everything you need.

A 700/4L is going to be more complicated than a TH350 or Powerglide.

Yes, the 4L60E is the same as a 700r4 with the exception that the kickdown stuff is electronically controlled instead of vacuum or kickdown cable. Selecting a gear still works the same as normal.

The gear selector stuff works the same as well. It's the same exact case with the omission of the kickdown cable and the magnetic reluctor wheel instead of a speedo gear. I did some research on doing a reluctor/gear setup but it's expensive. Hopefully you have a digital speedometer or have figured it out as well.

The vss is electronic, and so is my cluster. They started that around 90 model.

So the gear selector cable is the same then. Sweet.
That means the dipstick tube should work then as well.
I did read that the threads in the case for the cooler lines werent the same. I gotta do some more reading on that.

I always chop those off for rubber anyway. I hate snaking those hardlines around and tightening them on the case. Boo. Plus I run tranny coolers.
