soooo i was hanging out with friends today, and one of my buddy's was like "WTF HAPPENED TO YOUR CAR!!!" and i went to look, and it looks like a cat either fell off my car and tried catching itself, or tried jumping up unsucessful, i've got a totaly of 6 scratces where it looks like the cat fell, they look fairly deep, i have a single stage paint job from maaco.. i believe it's semi cured, what could i use to try to make it less noticable, or make it completely gone without having maaco touch it or pay an arm and a leg to fix it

Just a thought, but awhile back I thought I had a cat scratching my car all up. Every week there were more and more scratches. It turned out that it's just my paint and it's horrible quality. I can tell when my car was repainted that they did a horrible prep job, the old paint underneath is still perfectly smooth.

I had pretty good luck with fine scratches like that using Meguiar's Scratch-X polish.

I'm with stupid That is some good stuff if they are fairly light scratches.

I had my dog get excited to see me drive home one day and try and jump through my window. if they are really deep you can break out the wetsand paper. go with a 600 grit first, (just be VERY CAREFUL with this. 600 will take some paint off) then go with a 1500 to remove the scratches you just made with the 600, then hit it with a buffer with some cutting compound followed by the polishing compound and wax. good as new!

i'll go pick up some scratch-x, i looked at the stuff, but didn't buy it.. is it safe tho.. i have a single stage paint job that has "integrated" clearcoat.. and idk how that works.. but i don't want to mess up the paint..

btw about the bad prep work, i had kitty paws all on the car, and you can see where he slid and scratched

Single stage is easy stuff! As long as you don't rub through each layer you don't have to worry. And unless you area rubbing it with steel wool there shouldn't be an issue.

just grab a terry cloth and start rubbin!

Do you like the single stage other than that? I was thinking about using it for my new paint job on the camaro but wasn't sure.

a single stage paint just needs to be light wetsanded (1500-2000), buffed and polished and it will always come back to its original shine. it is just the outer layer that is faded. wetsand that off and the under layers will bring back that shine. just be sure to keep some good wax on it to protect that outer layer as there is no clear coat to protect it.

My 1968 triumph has a one stage paint that was painted over 6 years ago and after an afternoon of buffing and waxing it shines up like it did the day after it was painted.

thats just my experience.

It may not be fadded. Depending upon how much thinner was used, or how much air pressure was used, you can lighten/darken a paint job to match.
