Hey all, so I just thought i'd share, I got a new job!!Get down and Boogie!

I'm a marketing intern at Turner Construction. They were the ones who built the SeaHawks stadium. in fact, i'm at work looking out the window at it directly across the street! Smile This is so cool getting to work at a place making more than minimum wage and utilizing my degree!

I just started on Monday and they are already throwing me in headfirst. I'm doing website updates, proposal reviews, and records management stuff right now, and i may get to help out on some super top secret projects later on Very Happy

Anywho, just thought i'd share my excitement.

~JAKE

Thanks guys,

Technically i'm a business administration major with 2 minors in marketing and finance.

so yeah i'm pretty much a business nerd. Razz

work so far has been really fun and I have been able to work on fairly meaningful projects and not just busy work. (well there has been some busy work, i am an intern after all)

Congrats, welcome to the wild and wully world of construction. I work for a competitor of Turner's. There is no other trade like it. If you are stationed on a site you will meet the most interesting characters, see real decision making on the fly that may cost big $ and have a blast.

It does come with a price though. I normally work 60 hours in a 5 day work week, and if the job is really tuff and weekends are involved, you can forget family life.

When my wife askes what I think of my job, I tell here construction is organized caouse.

that's what i've noticed too! Which company do you work for?

I actually used to be on the other side, out in the field. I was a union laborer and did work for Sellen and Lydig for a few summers. I would pay my union dues all year, and when summer break came around i'd start making phone calls to past superintendents and the union hall. Then last summer i got a job doing consulting for construction subs and now i work for Turner. Smile that's my career in a nutshell.

I have been with GLY construction since 1993. I was a second period apprentice carpenter when I first worked for them. They offered me a salary position 7 years ago. I am an assistent Sup now. Great company with local owners, and have always been locally owned.
