Does anyone here wakeboard? And if so, what engine config and balast weights do you use?

Mine is I/O with a V8. I'm going to try to add a fatsac this year to my belly hold to try to bring more weight forward. My wake is too mellow and small. My friend with an inboard malibu ski boat puts a huge sack on the transom and it helps him.

I've got an '04 Malibu Wakesetter VLX. Fun boat. It's an inboard FI V8 and V-drive setup. That model has three ballast tanks, one on each side in the rear and one up in the bow plus what they call "The Wedge" which is just an airfoil that you can slap down at the rear of the boat to push the water out even more. It's crazy how much water it'll displace. With four friends, all three tanks full and the wedge down the wake is a good 2.5-3' high. Now that it's sunny I'm going out every week at least once, it's great!

I'm really hoping to get a new boat this summer. Until then i have to make due with what I have. I'm hoping to put a 10x16x62" fat sack in my belly tank. Blam, 400lbs.

Do you have any idea as to how big or how much water is in your ballasts? My little 302 has pulled 7 people in the boat and one on the water. My wakes just aren't big. Everything I've read has lead me to believe that the wake cross area is proportional to the weight (obviously) and the shape is up to the hull. So with enough water I should be able to get where I want to be.

From what I've found online...

Ballast: 900 lb. total
One center tank: 500 lb.
Two rear tanks: 200 lb. each

The side to side tanks are really nice because people never listen to me on where to sit in the boat. Just handy to even out the wake so you don't have whitewash on one side.

How long is the Reinell? You both have really nice boats.
