I may be in the market for an ECM for my 87 IROC. I have heard that GM used this ECM for several different vehicles over several years.

Anyone have one kicking around?

I already promised mine away. I did buy one at Napa a short while back. I am sure they are refurbished but only like $80.

Good luck!

Schucks has one for 90.00 + a 70.00 core charge. I wish my mom still had her 87, it would be nice to plug in another ecm just to see if it is really the problem. I still have the 90 vert but it is a SD set up, wont work on a MAF car.

With my limited knowledge about trouble shooting, my opinion is that the ecm is toast. I considered that the o2 sensor may be the culprit but with the MAF unplugged the check engine light did not come on and the ecm didnt store a code. The crosscounts also almost stopped while the over fueling was happening. With that said, I dont like throughing parts at a problem and dont know how to confirm a bad ecm Confused

Have you tried a junk yard? I would imagine that any 87-90 IROC will work as they are all MAF based. If its not throwing a code when you unplug the MAF, you might be on to something with a bad ECM.

how sure are you that your chip is factory? some a-hole may have switched off the code for it before he sold it because he did not want to fix problems (but had chip burning stuff..) reaching i know, but you could at least take a look before you swap computers.

i'd offer to let you borrow mine for a few minutes to test, but it would cost me more in gas to get there then a new ECM.

If you don't mind the drive down to Tacompton I can let you borrow mine for a minute to see if that fixes anything (assuming you can make it that far with your overfueling problem).

Thanks for the offer aaron_sK, but their is no way it would make it that far. I hate starting it now just to work on it, Im sure the rings are taking a beatting due to cylinder washdown.

I considered a wrecking yard but they are usually close to the same price as a rebuilt unit and has no garranty.

I purchased a reman unit from Schucks, installed the ED WRIGHT chip and same sht. It cleaned up after a couple minutes of running. I got out while it was idling and just as I got to the front of the car it died. I was going to unplug the MAF and TPS to see if it would through a code. Got back in and noticed the scanner had stopped monitoring the computer. Couldnt get the scanner to read again, the display said "vehicle not responding" Started it up and the over fuelling was back.

Now I am looking for my old stock chip. I dont know if I still have it?

So, I guess this thread can be closed. Feel free to offer advise on the thread I started in the garage area though.
