See the slight color difference between the outside of the tire and the inside? It looks a lot more definitive in person. I'd normally attribute something like that to over/under inflated tires but I would think that'd be more gradual? Is that just from turning on uneven surfaces or something?

It's almost like there is a different rubber compound on each section of the tire.

Ideas?

Is it doing that on all 4 wheels? Also is it showing a color diffrence on the inside of the wheel also, or just the outide?

Ya know. I actually don't know either of those answers. Laughing I'll look tomorrow. The fronts are the only ones I notice it on and only on the outside. But, I can't say I've looked at the other tires/inside.

When is the last time you've had an alignment? Too much positive camber might be the culprit. Thats the only thing I can think of that will make odd wear patterns like that.

That's what I would be looking at. If it's worn on both edges it's probably underinflation. Otherwise you may have just gotten a wierd defect tire.

It doesn't seem to be wearing differently, just colored differently, and it's greatly more pronounced on the fronts but if you look real close you can see it on the rears. It's on the inside and the outside, but I did just have my tires rotated (dismounted and remounted on different wheels) a couple weeks ago.

I haven't had an alignment in awhile at least a year and a half but the last one was before I chopped a quarter coil off my sportlines so I would assume (uh oh, don't want to do that!) I'd get more negative camber from the lower ride height.

Would there be any benefit if there were different compounds of rubber in different locations on the tread surface? That's about the only other thing I can think of. But then again I miss a lot.

if you aren't seeing uneven wear, then I probably wouldn't worry about it. It could be a diffrent rubber compoint, tire makers do all sorts of weird stuff to make the tires work the way they want them too. If you aren't having a problem, and aren't noticing uneven wear, then I would just drive it, and not worry.

If you start noticing it is actualy wearing diffrently there, then I would start looking at some alignment stuff.

Of course, re-aligning the car since you cut the springs, won't be a bad idea either.

Yeah, there was little concern on my part about problems. I just wanted to ask why. Laughing

I need to align it, badly. Sad thing is there's a brand new laser alignment rack at my shop, just need to give one of the techs a bottle of jager. Very Happy
