Almost a little worse then the last one...
This time instead of going past the school bus.. I was driving past the school. It did make it to work though, and only took a 1/2 hour and a few bucks to fix. |

| This is the truck. Which has been running with these parts since last summer. Except i've swapped 1.6 roller tips for 1.6 full rollers. And had the same problem occur. |

i had too buy different length for roller rockers on mine. there shorter than stock depending if your using aluminum rocker or stamp roller rockers.
Are you using guide plates or girdles? rollers float. _________________

I had a push rod in my '85 Z28 305 TPI actually break in half. This was on a bone-stock engine. The valve covers had probably never been off. No one seemed to know what caused it. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

I had a similar thing happen with my LG4 that was in my old 85 Z/28.
previous owner put the wrong kind of nut on #7's intake stud, and just torqued the bejeezus out of it. Ended up almost pulling the stud out, cracking it at the base, bending the pushrod.
ended up having to replace the whole head. _________________

The bent pushrod is just a symptom. When the rocker stud breaks first, causing a hellacious backfire out the intake since its an exhaust valve. Then when I shut the truck off that rocker falls down and gets in the way of the neighboring intake rocker. Next time I crank the engine over, it bends the pushrod.. no more popping out the intake.
These studs are just not long or strong enough. The one's i'm replacing them with are old pioneer units, which are a hair longer and arent the black chromium looking material. The ones that are breaking are mr gasket chinese crap. Not having much luck finding anything else in a replacement type screw in stud either. May have to call summit or arp themselves and see if they offer anything at all. I'm also going to have a closer look at the valvetrain geometry. This motors far too noisey. |

| Well I borrowed Paul's adjustable checking pushrod this weekend. Ran it yesterday to check geometry. And I'm nearly perfect as is. If anything, the stock pushrods may be just a hair long. The roller line is just to the outside of center.. barely. Longer pushrod just moves things further from there. Looks like I've just got crappy rocker studs. |
