i have been reading a lot of information on the ipod and the zune and am trying to make up my mind on what to ger.
i will be useing it for listening to music, pod casts and maby a video or two.
I will want to listen to it while im working out and traveling in a bus.
the ipod appeals to me because it has so meny accesories.
the biggest appeal for the zune is that it has an fm radio.
to me on all other fronts they are equil.
so im asking you if you have one which do you prefer and which bould you buy next. _________________

I have no input other than i wouldn't get either of them. I don't like iAnything and microsoft is the devil. I seriously just use my Palm Treo phone for everything. Streaming, music, video, email, web. Just my 2 cents. I apologize for the useless post. _________________ E30

| Zune doesn't have support or widespread utilization as well as the iPod does. |

IPOD ftw.
There is a reason that they have this much market share. Just sayin.

I know the Ipod is linux compatable. Don't think the zune is.
I don't have either so I can't speak from experience but... I have a friend who used to have a Zune. Now he has an Ipod. He likes the Ipod much better. _________________

i had a zune like right after it came out, it worked good
but the battery didnt last long
software sucked
and it is big and bulky(so is like a ipod video),
i would rather have a ipod nano now
but i guess there is newer versions of the zune now... _________________ -Donald

Have had the same ipod for at least 4 years if not longer. It's scratched and banged up but still keeps ticking! Recently it started giving me random dead messages so I popped it open and cleaned everything and haven't seen that message in a couple months. _________________

ik love the ipods touch turny button interface. i hate HATE HATE itunes and it's BS. not to mention any music you rip into itunes is DRM locked to itunes and the ipod. no thanks.
if i could get an ipod and not deal with apple software i would have one. as it stands no, cheapo no name brand mp3 player FTW, it may not hold up like an ipod, but in the words of Easy E "throw it in the gutter, and go buy another"
that linux thing is intriguing... |

Tony, mistaken? Nevar!
Yeah dude, I rip all my CDs with itunes just because I'm lazy and burn 'em to CDs for friends. Err...never would I do such a thing. But if I were to do such illegal activities, it would be possible.
I remember hearing awhile ago about 3rd party programs available to manage music on your ipod as well but I wasn't too interested in looking for one. Again, lazy. |

Have you actually owned an ipod Tony? iTunes annoyed me at first because I was used to things being made harder than they need to be. iTunes is much more intuitive imho. After switching over to MACs it is just an entirely different experience.
Not a fan boy, but a fan for sure.

no, i have never owned ANY MP3 player. however i am "the computer guy" many people know, so i am often called upon to fix iTunes problems. most of the "rules" about how the software works i have heard from my cousin Derek.
to give some quick background on Derek, when i arrived in LA he asked me to look at his PC, "i think i need a bigger processor" i popped open the stats. 2.4GHZ pIII... 256mb of RAM?!. xp service pack two $30 dollars and a one gig chip later it's running fast. he knows JACK about computers. but he owns over 500 CDs and uses his ipod daily, so like a fool i assumed when he said you cannot export iTunes ripped MP3s to other iPods, or to another computer that he was right.
but no, i have never owned an iPod... i would have bought some no name mp3 player, but i love that twirly button the ipod has.

itunes makes some things easier... not all. my cousin stores most of his music on a usb hard drive. we redid his computer desk (it was chaos) and moved it to the rear usb ports, so windows assigns it a new drive letter. now iTunes can't see any music. this is no big deal and to be expected. we essentialy moved all it's files to a new place. so i change the drive letter back to the original... no dice. i tell itunes to "find my music", no dice. i remove and re-install iTunes, no dice. i try to "search for music on my computer" after reinstalling, no dice. finally, after some internet research, i uninstall iTunes, delete the music library file that it leaves behind when you uninstall it, reinstall, "search for music" and everything was ok. so now as long as we always plug that HDD in the the correct usb port we are ok, otherwise we have to delete the music library file and tell iTunes to find music again. (i wrote some instructions and placed them in the same folder as the installer so my cousin can do it on his own). all this so he could put files that we knew the location of, onto what is in essence a usb mass storage device. that is less hard then it needs to be? no, "drag-and-drop" is less hard then it needs to be, a function which the iPod does not support. i do not want to create a "playlist" to "sync" to my iPod, i want to grab my "classic rock" folder, and dump it into the "removable disc G:" and then walk away.
however..... itunes makes things simple for playing back your music. i like the iTunes interface for playing music. with my folder setup; if i want to play "Radar Love" i have to know that it's in the "continuing story of radar love" album folder, in the "golden earing" folder in "classic rock". in itunes i can pan through all my artists alphabetically, click golden earing and then click on the song... or search for the song alphabetically, or look through all the classic rock songs alphabetically... so easy.
man "the twilight zone" is a rad song too...

but can you take those MP3 files, ripped to your PC with iTunes; move them to a USB HDD, copy them too, say your friends laptop, and add them to his iTunes? this is what my cousin would like to know. he would never engage in such illegal activity, we just want to know for theoretical purposes.

FWIW, I had music stored all over my computer in no real organization. I drag-n-dropped it all into itunes and then hit I think sync music or whatever and it moved it all into the same folder and renamed them all according to album and artist. Seemed pretty easy to me. |
