|
|
And well, my car ain’t what I expected.
What brought this event on. Last summer a friend bought a Z28 5.0. After driving both he kept picking at me that his was faster. Past year I have been tinkering doing things I wanted…. Not to wax his ass. So Saturday he drives mine, comes back with a white face and says no f-ing way he’s gonna race me. Now I’m thinking, WTF? It don’t feel that much more powerful.
So another friend, shes a tiny female and drives for a local crew and shes going this weekend. Buahh, time to really see whats up. Now saturday night shes nagging... I'm gonna kick your ass(and I'm thinking, I dont give a shizzle)
Well, that car that I thought was a low end grunt, errr… nope. Mostly top end, and I suck at reading a tree. Track is a 1/8 mile.
First test…
1.063 rt
2.37 60ft
67.46 mph
9.671
Spinning all 1st, spinning 2nd going sideways. Started spinning 3rd at the end. Guess what, all this and I STILL run faster then my female friend in the ride she drives.
2nd test… Lower air pressure and use some loc track stuff?
.817 rt
2.235 60
74.13
8.902
no spinning at all!!! Held the gears like a mother TRYING to make them spin
1st bracket race
1.363 rt
2.287 60
70.97
9.226
Spun a hair off the line. Didn’t hold gears. Think I might have let up a bit to soon. Lights blinking at different times was “whoa WTF”. But I won!
2nd race
.853 rt
2.294 60
74.13
9.011
Won this by .043. Other guy was part of the crew I went with. He thought I was still 2 cars behind and he let off at the end right when my car starts to shine. I blew right by him FTW!! He was sooooooo pissed. He thought he won.
3rd race
Someone missplaced the time slip. But my stupid ass had the ebrake on the whole race. DOH.
So, anyone want to politely tell me what these numbers mean besides I need some traction and read the tree better. |

Pretty descent numbers, you should be midish 13's with those 1/8th miles times. That isn't bad at all. Although, you MPH seem a little low for the ET you ran.
If you want to sort of compare to some of our cars, there is a 1/4 mile table in the garage feature.

Sounds like you had fun though. Just remeber e-brake = bad. _________________

Yeah, Great Times! I did the little 1/8th to 1/4 mile calculations and was impressed. _________________

The car I was against in race 2. His trap speed is only 54-57mph.
btw, how do I add one of my middle times to that list.

| I wonder if something is wrong with the trap lights, or did you let off early to hedge the win, since it was bracket racing? IF they are brake checking the finish line to make sure they aren't breaking out, or letting of early to keep from breaking out, that would expain the low trap speeds. But I would think if you were crossing the lines still on the throttle, with a 9.0x ET, that your traps would be in the 80-85 range. |

I let off early cause I thought I heard some "ping" in the motor.
The other guy let off cause he thought he had me waxed. But even at full WOT, he still only traps in high 50's. Now its not an fbody, its a highly modified pinto.
heres my setup
350 crate motor
unknown non-roller cam
"810" TBI heads
stock TPI intake
ODB2 PCM
T5 on its way out
3.23 gears w/235/55/16 |

Some port work on the heads, and a cam that you know what it is, would probably go a long ways in your combo.

Well, I already have some things I plan to do... just to do, not for racing.
Runner dent removal (kit already ordered)
Airfoil
Work on the pcm some more. I know its not right.(plus I can make a race tune)
Few minor weight mods.
Also trying to think of a way to make some quick remove headlight covers.
Other thoughts. My swaybars were exact opposite of what most people do for drag. I had 34/18 on it. Should prob do a 32/24? With some better rear tires, and smaller fronts. |

Go jay go! Haha! Good to hear you put the hurt on some people What could you do to lower your 60' times? What size are your rear tires? |

Lower 60ft? Um, better tire and dunno if I'm shifting in that 60ft or not? I'm going to guess I am... so better shifting?
235/55/16(26.18dia) goodyear h2's. They suck for racing.
Most of all, now that I have the basic setup I plan to keep. I have a base to start from. |

Doubtful that you'll shift before the 60ft mark unless you have some serious gearing going on.
Practice! |

I normally shift before I am thru an intersection. Thats around 60'ish feet. So I think I am likely shifting between 50 & 100ft.
Went out and did a data log tonight. So hopefully I can correct my upper rpm hickups. |

V8 T-5 should be a 2.95:1 first gear. _________________

For 5500rpm limit, 26.18 tire, 3.23 rear, and 2.95 1st gear, you can go up to 45MPH before you shift into second. If you run through the numbers you can base your shifts on MPH and I bet you'll get way better times. Especially if you are shifting into 2nd at 20mph.

TPI intake limit is 4500
Bust most of all. I gotta figure out where my peak power is, and shift out right after it. No sense in spinning to 4500 if my peak is 3800?? right? |
