My tilt column decided to go t**s up as I was driving home from work. After twenty years of surviving it was probably due. Does anybody nearby have a puller I can borrow, or am I headed to Autozone?

You can do it without a puller, just take off the nut, and then hit the wheel with your hands from left to right really quickly, it will sort of shake it loose.

Best I have is a harmonic balancer puller. I've heard you can use those too.

pull the column. it's not hard. pull it with wheel attached and then do what chris and i did. place the steering wheel on something high like a fence post. (so the column is off the ground) and hit the center post with a hammer, hammering the column out of the wheel. the one on my 86 had never been removed, it came out. the "shake it off" method will work if your wheel has been off before, but if your wheel has never been off it may not work.
