just name it the Half-Am and put a large firebird on the hood so firebird people stop whining on about how there should be a 5thgen Firebird/Trans Am/Firehawk since there's a new camaro ...

that said, I'd honestly drive one for a daily driver, but if I have my choice I'd rather drive the new Camaro... though the G8 or new Impala (same platform, different faces) is quite appealing as well...

I'm not picky as long as it's got an LS derived engine in it Very Happy

Sad we have to rely on the Aussies to deliver something, anything to represent Pontiac. I hear if the G8 makes it here, 2 years later they will make/occupy a plant in Canada, then it will be an "American" car

I don't know Don, the Holden stuff is at least bringing us back muscle cars, in V8/RWD form. Heck, other then the Vette, nothing GM has done in the last 5 years has even been on the radar, short of the Ausie cars, and the Lotus stuff. Then they seem to mess it up even more, by trying to keep with the corp. styling ques on the cars, and you get stuff like the GTO.

I honestly think GM would be in a better place overall, if they brought the Vauxhaul VXR stuff over, and just stuck a Chevy or Pontiac badge on it, and didn't restyle it. And bring over the other GM euro/ausie cars, and didn't water them down and try to restyle them. What GM is doing surely isn't working. If it wasn't for Truck and fleet sales, I don't think GM would be afloat for long based on just their own cars.

I think this is the problem for the American car companies in General. It seems that a lot of the American population is trying to go the way of Europe, Ford could surely just bring over the Focus ST and Mondeo and the Falcon from down under, and probably sell them all very well. I would venture to guess that the Mondeo would sell far and above what the Tore-ass and 500 are doing. Take stuff that is selling well all over the world, but not even for sale here in the US, toss in the Tucks/SUV's have been the life-blood for the US car makers, and see what happens. Forget trying to make stuff to take on the Honda/Toyota stuff specificly in the American market, and bring in the stuff that is actualy competting with it around the world. Save the money from designing specific US market cars, and spend the money to retool US plants to build the same cars as the plants in Europe.

Sorry for the long post, but I don't see what direction the US car makers are trying to go. I guess I am one of the people who is glad to see the Holden stuff come to the US, I am glad to see GM selling a big HP, RWD car again. But I also think it is high time for GM to reinvent itself, and become relavent again, and it may just be that the europe and ausie-land hold the keys for GM to make relavent cars again.

So in Europe 4 of the 10 are GM or Ford CARS. Not a single car in the US market, other than the Impala and Malibu (which I bet at least 50% of those, are fleet sales). So what is the diffrence? Is it a build quality thing, is that those models wouldn't sell in the US?

Just to through another wrench in here. Here are the UK specific numbers.

So in the UK, the top 4 spots are all GM or Ford products, and all version of cars that are NOT available in the US market (the Focus models in europe are diffrent the US versions).

Very Well said Jon. The Euro Domestics are a lot more dynamic than the selection they give us, allowing for a lot more competition and overall
interest.

Heck, there is a Focus variant that I saw on Top Gear (best auto show ever)
that caught my eye.

Personally, and I don't mean to offend, people need to begin to realize that their love and faith in American car products is not being returned to them in build quality and resale value. The Japanese culture lends to their incredible build quality, but the Accord and Camry ARE products we could rival if GM and Ford had made the choice years ago to build to the same tolerances and specifications.

There is no evil in realizing that we as a species produce great products beyond our borders, think globally, buy wisely. There are always exceptions, most of them are V8 RWD black top churners, or some bad as* Diesels, and I still love em.

In my families line of work I meet a lot of hard working people who have the unfortunate financial situation of dealing with the sale of a late 90's American Sedan that isn't worth a 1/4 of what they paid, or has the resale value of a 1990 Accord, which is most likely still running a whole lot better.

Not the old version. They did make a GMC model called the Caballero though, IIRC.

The Kammaback. Pontiac tried it more then once. acording to the article it was actualy considered for a lilted production run on the late 2nd gens.
