|
|
so last friday, backing out of a driveway I hear a LOUD "bang", car stalls... loose clutch peddle. Wont start, wont come outta gear.
Crawl under car, see fluid dripping from slave cyl.
get it home and replace slave cyl with an old used one I had. Clutch point is WAY down at the floor. Bleed n bleed n bleed.. still cant get it. Pull slave out and see it cracked but not broken in same fashion as old one.
Replace with brand new aluminum body. Bleed n bleed n bleed.. over 15times now, 3 different methods. I still barly have peddle down at the floor. The hotter the motor seems to get, the less peddle I have.
Open for suggestions. |

No I havent, thats why I'm asking ideas before I have to go thru that.
pull drivers seat to get center consule out
center out to get shifter boot off
shifter boot off to get shifter out
shifter out to get trans out
then cross member and driveshaft too.. |

I don't know much about the t5's but can you peak through where the clutch fork goes in? Either way, it sounds mechanical. Relax, you can have the trans out in 30 minutes. |

someone suggested the fork boot. I have yet to do that.
Takes 30min just to get the shifter out err wait, 30min to get it up off the ground since it sits so low |

Yeah, I need to get one of those low profile jacks too. I've got a damn good excuse too; mine's leaking!
Even still, I have to grab the firebird's jack and get it high enough to fit the jack under the k-member. But even that doesn't take more than 2 minutes or so.
Why do you have to yank the seat to pull the console? Can't you take off the top plate? |

Not sure what bleeding methods you're trying. But they're notoriously hard to bleed. I think gm doesnt even sell them seperately any more.. Comes with master and line and allready bled.
Anyway, the best method i've come up with is to take the slave off. Then hold it with the nipple up. Open nipple and compress the slave cylinder, then close the nipple while holding the cylinder all the way in. Now release and let it draw fluid down into the slave. Takes 2 or 3 times. This method will scrape the air bubble loose that cling to the inside of the cylinder. |

the reason I have to take the center out, is the owner before me who did the t5 swap cut a huge gaping hole. To cover that, I bought the "universal" rubber boot. The screws for it are EXACTLY right below the center. So not only do I have to pull the plate, I have to pull the top, and bottom, radio, loosen heater controls.
chevymad. I'll give that a try. Close, but not to the same method I have tryed the most(thats what book says to do). But Ive also tryed bleeding like brakes, and gravity feed.
:edit: BTW, wal-mart tonight where I was getting 2 tires had the low-pro jacks.... still didnt fit Luckly I took my angle-cut boards with anti-skid on the bottom with me. |

ok, so I get home today. Reserviour is about half empty. I seem to have a very stiff clutch peddle now(almost as stiff as breaks). If I had air in the line, when it would heat up, it would expand making it needing to compress more to move the clutch right?
I tryed madchevys bleed method. Didnt get any air.
I'm going to see if the trans is low on fluid. Its DM3, and has to be filled to the top hole correct? |

| Trans being low on oil shouldn't have any effect on the clutch pedal. How old is the clutch? What brand? |

1st the stock slave blows up.
2nd another stock slave cracks and leaks
3rd an aluminum( assume it's stronger that stock) slave gives you a hard to push pedal
Now the master is dorked because of the amount of force it is taking to disengage the clutch.
Your gonna have to pull the tranny and fix the real problem.
Something else, when you put it back together now is the perfect time for a Pro 5.0 shifter. On my car I can just pull the shift plate and upperboot, reach in there and unbolt the stick and leave the shifter on the tranny. No more pulling the console. |
