Well as some of you guys know I have begun restoration on my 67 RS/SS everything has been going great! just trying to keep parts coming to continue moving forward. So far I have stripped the car to bare shell put the shell on the Rotisserie and media blasted the whole car. Man was this thing in bad shape! These thing had some pretty bad spots! I have done several things though! Here are some pics!

Removing fenders

Rust was hiding all over!

After getting the interior removed I found several mouse nests among other very nasty things over the course of the 40 years the car has been around!

Once totally Disassembled I brought the car to the shop and prepared it for media blasting. It was a chore that took 4 guys to pack the camaro body out of my garage and onto the trailer after that I slinged it with the forklift to get it up in the air while I built the right mounts for the rotisserie to mount to the car.

Now the blasting began! What a PITA!

Once the car was blasted I ordered up new complete cowl sides a new dash and rear trunk pan. As well as patched all holes and smoothed the floor. Factory big block car came with a single trac bar that connected to the diff. Mine was broken at the mount to the floor of course because the car had seen a hard life before it came into my possession I reinforced this so the next time I dump the clutch it wont do that to me as well! We then POR 15'd the whole floor.

Tomarrow the car will get all the welds ground down smooth and seam sealer will be applied to the new installed parts and a fresh coat of primer/sealer will go on the whole underside of the car. Once that is laid sometime next week the underside of the car will be painted to match the rest of the car (factory issue Bolero Red)
I am going with the stock color however I plan on making this car have more pro touring style. 17's and 18's with low pro rubber and a lowered ride hieght are in store as well as monstrous power!

I will make another post to see what you guys think of the powerplant ideas!

I know it's not a third gen but I figured you guys would like to see progress just the same

Very Happy

Wow, it looks like you're really putting some serious time and work into it.

Big Thumbs up for the Ford parking sign too.

Nice progress Zach. I love the RS/SS. What color scheme are you going to go with?

Thanks for sharing.

I am going to run with the factory bolero red but I am toying the idea with adding a Kandy to the red as well (might be cool!) and of course the front bumblebee white strip! I will get more pics up soon yesterday I got the bottom and entire cowl and dash all in primer and ready for paint!

progress looks great so far Zac!

Is she going to be more of a street/strip car or a full-out drag car like the 83Z is?

Im going for a pro touring car this time. Low slung stance and low pro tires with big rims in a staggered look with several suspension mods to make it handle accordingly. But as always it has to have the heart of a dragger! lol big HP Smile

are you going to convert to coils in the rear?

I have always wanted to build a pro-touring 1st gen. I just don't have one, or the money for one. lol

Looks like a fun project, I can't wait to see the progress pictures as you keep working on it!

Im not sure as of yet what I am going to do. The fronts are no problem I think I will go with hotchkis 2 inch drop coils and sway bar with maybe tubular control arms along with poly everything throughout the car. But for the rear sus. I am still figuring it out. Maybe lowering blocks but I am thinking about getting a whole nother set of springs that are 2 inches lower along with maybe converting to a adjustable coil over shock. I was also looking at the air bar 4 bar sys. I think that would be the best route but also the most expensive. I am trying to keep the project moving along and if I went with the air ride in the back that would set the whole thing back awhile.

You seem to have fab skills, should convert it to a 'vette IRS Wink I know it doesnt make much performance difference (mostly comfort as I'm told) but it's still the "cool" factor

Well the car now has some color on it. I had ordered house of Kolor candy apple red but it looked like crap.... not something I wanted for this project. So that was a ooops.... After shooting some more test panels we decided that the factory red with clear is going to look the best! So here it is! Next will be the firewall and dash. Then I will be getting the front and rear suspension done up and on the car.

Pics with seam sealer/value color

Factory Bolero Red

I can't wait to get the car off that rotisserie and get it back to a roller again! I would do the quarter panels and back half on the stand but after talking with several people they all say that the first gen's need to be on the ground with all the suspension under them before cutting off any of the back sheet metal (besides the trunk) because the body can twist. I will be getting subframe connector shortly and installing those at the same time so that should stiffen the car considerably.

well a quick update!

I have finished scuffing the rest of the firewall and the painter will be laying down some more paint here tomorrow. The poly body bushings should be here soon as well so I can get the suspension back under this thing and bring it back to a roller. I think I am going to go with Hotchkiss lowering springs in the back as well now for 1 1/2 inch drop in the rear. Subframe connectors will be installed as well shortly!

Well Hotchkis Springs arrived and were installed today as well as I resealed and POR15'd the reaend and all brackets it looks nice and I think that after the car has the full weight on it again it will sit close to the right height. I may go a little lower though.

Some pics

Gotta love that big brown lovely truck that drops off new toys!

Installing springs

The wheels are on!

Now the subframe connectors, rear sway bar, and shocks will be next along with the full rear sheetmetal!

Doing some searches on the fist gen boards and I talked with a guy that said tha twith the full hotchkis TVS suspension system (all the components I am going to install) he was able to outhandle his wifes 98 Trans Am. would be cool to get half that good of a ride is what im thinking! Smile
