So i posted this before but it is no longer here.
I picked up that 9 bolt posi disc brake rear for $80. it also has the 3.45 gears in it. The catch is the spider gears are munched so i need a new posi carrier.
BUT i already picked up a 3 series posi carrier off ebay for $60 shipped. That should be here soon and then i get to begin piecing together my newest project!
Is there anything else i may need to make this work? I know i need a proportioning valve to change brake bias, Ian mentioned he may have one somewhere. But is there anything else that i'm missing?

Did your ring and pinion come with an installation kit? If not you may want to consider that. Are you going to do the install?

I thought that because of the bearings you had to keep the carrier with its case? Isn't there something funny with the BW rears?
The drums work on less pressure than the disks do, so if you do a swap without a prop valve the rears just won't work that well. Not terrible. I'm just saying that you can do the axle swap and then do the prop valve swap later. Check out my vee-six cardomain site to see what I did for a valve. You might want to copy my setup.

Lol, mine came together perfect the first time. No leaks! I was thinking to myself, "Is it really this easy?". Then my dad told me how lucky I was cause he had lots of horror stories of pipes splitting or not sealing right. I got lucky I guess.
Took me a LONG time to find all the damn adapters and pieces I needed. |

From what I've seen, a typical fresh flare job takes one or two times of being tightened down to seal completely. Mine was moist after a few weeks of driving. I just cracked it loose, retightened, vacuum bleed and it's fine. |

Did you just eliminate the prop valve altogether and run an adjustable rear? |

I've completely removed my stock combo valve, front see's 100% and the rear is on the dial.
Simplifies plumbing too. I don't have tons of lines running all over the place. Just two from MC, one to the line lock which has two outputs acting as a T for the front and one line going to the rear.

Well, I just did the same swap Jake, I love it! The posi makes a huge difference
I did the prop valve and the rear at the same time and it came together just fine, no hick ups. The only thing is that my parking brake still doesnt work. |

Same here, front is 100%, rear is on the prop. I should have done a line lock though, that would have been fun. |

?? i hope not. I'm planning on just putting my gears on this carrier and putting it back in. Also, where did yall get your prop valves and line locks? Is there any great reason to doing a line lock besides sweet burnouts?

It was a hurst unit that I picked up. Just the linelock, no kit or anything.
I had the gutted stocker for quite a while. Although it was hideous with all the adapters I had to use to get the right lines/threads. I have a faded picture I can post when I get home that shows the current 4thgen MC, linelock, and adjustable prop. |

no harder then the propvalve. you will need to cut the line going to your front brakes, flair both ends, and plug in a line lock between them. flairs are tough to do, but i am told once you get the hang of it they are "easy". that said i never got the hang of it. every singe one i have ever tried has not sealed. most were visibly lop sided. the ones i have tried on new brake line always work, the ones i try on old factory lines always fail.
it can be done with adapters, so you don't need to flair anything, but this will probably double the cost of the brake line portion of the job. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

Basically making a compression fitting of sorts...
Check this out. The illustrations are kin of small, but the description is pretty good.

Basically you spread the end of the line out with a small tool so that you can screw a connection over it.

Forgot to post the picture when I got home, but you still can't really see anything. It's in the top right corner. The master is out of the picture but you can see the one line going down to the linelock mounted on the strut tower and the other line heading to the also not pictured prop valve mounted down in front of the battery.
