|
|
I think I need to get some wider wheels. My 18x8 245/45r18's don't hold in the LT1. The car breaks traction anywhere in 1st and half way through 2nd. I believe it has 3.42 rear gears (I haven't actually looked).
I need to get new tires anyway, but I'm hoping to get something around 10-12" wide for the rear. Do you guys have any suggestions? I really don't care what it looks like, as long as its black. The 275/50r17's seem to be around. So maybe a 17x10 rim? I have no idea what people run for big tires.

You should be able to go 17x11, just find the right wheels. I think you can find ZR1 style wheels. Whatever you can find cheap, you can always paint black.
BTW, Karl Hunter told me that with a little work, you CAN fit 18x11 up front on our cars.

| If you help me find some wider rims I will entertain that idea. I also have 2 brand new Hankook 245/45r16's to put on my 16x8 crosslaces that would go with them. |

I'm running a c6 wheel now, 19x10 with a 295 width tire in the rear and there is room for at least another half inch without modding the wheelwell. They're gunmetal, not black however. There aren't a lot of stock wheels that are wide, cheap, and plentiful. Some of the repo companies offer stock style wheels in big, wide sizes. Check ebay. _________________

Umm, are cars a 5x120.65, those wheels are 5x114.3. Those would fit a mustang very nicely.
If they were the right bolt pattern, they would be good, but they are already on a 5.5" backspacing, like we need for our cars. |

BMW 5 lug wheels fit our cars and have similar backspacing. BMW makes some WIDE wheels. i don't know if they hit 10"+ though. |

There goes my hope of getting Cobra wheels
I called up Les Schwabs and they said the only sizes my current wheels come in are 18x8, and 20x9.5 (something like that). And being that my 18x8's are 54lbs a piece, I can't imagine what the 20's weight! My crosslaces are 40lbs with tire. He said they actually don't carry many 10" wide rims for my application. Sucks.
So I'm pretty limited to corvette wheels with huge spacers? _________________ E30

Cobra wheels are 17x9. You would need to check the offset or backspacing. You can get wheel adaptors that change the bolt pattern, but you have to have enough diffrence to be able to use a 1" or larger adaptor.

I found a BMW here at work with 20x8 20x9.5. I found the owner and it turns out he has some new wheels coming that will replace his olds. Just so happens that he wants to sell them! I don't really want 20's, but he said he goes through rims every 4 months just cause he likes to change them.
$550 for the set.
Looks like I might be getting some shnazzy 5 series bmw rims soon!
