So on my way to work today start smellin burnt plastic, noticed a plume of smoke coming from behind the defrogger/foglight switches, at first i thought it was a cigarette that i put out, soon the whole interior was filled luckily i bought a gatorade before hittin the free way, killed the car and doused the dash, (that'll be fun to clean). anyone run into this? im thinkin its a bad ground or somthin fun like that.

More than likely had a 12V wire rub on something until it wore a bare spot, caused a short to ground. What you smelled was the insulation on the wire burning away. Just a guess, but worth looking for behind there.

Had a similar thing happen installing some audio stuff in another car I had. I shorted a hot wire to ground before I fused it (it had clear insulation), then I smelled it, then I saw the wire turn red at the source and travel its length. Kinda neat under a dark dash, but fortunately nothing was damaged.
