Anyone ever have an oil filter stop threading after it was screwed on half way?
Changing the oil in the g/f's escort.... were you really can't see the threads of the adapter piece on the block. Oil filter starteded threading nice as usual. Tightened her down good. Filled up with oil.
Go fire it up to drive it off the ramps..... oil light is on. WTF. Shut it off. Start it again. Oil light still on..... Give it a small bit of throttle to help circulate. Nothing. Shut it off. Scratch head. Step out to 4.5qts of oil on the driveway.
The filter threads were jamming up half way screwed on so there was about a 1/4" gap between the filter and the mating surface.
Stupid oil filter.
Hopefully I didn't toast the motor. I changed the oil while it was hot so there should have been plenty in the bearings. Pick up a new filter tomorrow.

Ouch. Never had that happen before. I did pick one up once for my Olds that was the wrong diameter and didn't seal, big mess there too. Parts store at the time said it was the right one. Took it back along with the old one to complain.... _________________ 92 Camaro

| Ive not seen that. I'm use to seeing double o-rings, or a filter stuck on. |

hehe, that's what you get for working on your girlfriend's car
Didn't we learn this lesson already with a certain Volvo?
hopefully it just took out the threads on the filter and the ones on the engine aren't too fubar. _________________

The thread adapter works fine on the old one and the new one I picked up today.
Just that one filter with buggered threads or something casuing it to stop half way.
Quite the mess. My only thankfulness is that it was new oil and not the dirty oil all over the driveway.
Cat litter would probably have worked.... if it didn't start raining before I could sweep it up today.
sigh. |
