Car 85Z t5
Problem: after getting a new clutch installed in 04, i noticed that the pedal was stiff when depressing it when shifting...3 years later, and hardly any miles on it, sold it to RSFreak, and one day, the clutch pedal seized up and could no longer be depressed...kept breaking the little plastic clip off the pedal. Shifts in all gears just fine when car is not on...lol! Any ideas?
Help appreciated!

i am confused which little plastic clip it is that keeps breaking?
a stiff pedal would mean the pressure plate is stiff or has some sort of a preload. If you take the slave cylinder out of the trans and keep it hooked up, and hit the clutch (while I'm sure it may kill the slave cylinder), does it still feel hard? |

well, i can't help with your actual problem, but i can tell you this LOOSE that plastic "bushing retainer". they are crap. a brand new one from gm lasted me less then a year. buy a bag of brake pedal retainer clips (5 to a package) and use one of them instead. i broke the retainer tabs off the bushing and still ran the plastic bushing. the clutch pedal has not fallen off the car since.
bobby, here is the difference:

the trip to the junkyard cost you almost as much as i paid for five brand new ones i think the whole bag was under 3$. the only time i have ever left a dealership thinking i got a good deal. |

Sounds like maybe the slave cylinder went out. Or maybe the master cylinder. But I would lean towards the slave. Just a idea, unbolt the slave cylinder from the bell housing, push the pushrod in all the way and have someone push on the break pedal if nothing is different i would say its the master then. But I might be way off. _________________ Thirdgenless |
