I just recently put in a new rear from a 98 LS1 Z28. 3.23 posi and 12-inch brakes. Scored it for really cheap.
So yeah, that's a nice one, but the old one isn't so bad either. In fact, it's good enough that I can offer it to you crewbies for a good price!
The RPO for the car it came from ('84 Z28 L69) say it's gonna be a 3.73 open rear. Now, either my tach is off a couple hundred RPM's, or it's actually got 4.11 gears in it. Never popped it open to check, but calculators online tell me 4.11 based on speed, RPM, and tire radius. It is still definitely an open rear though, I can tell you that much... Also good for the lucky buyer is the fact that it has the somewhat rare aluminum drum brakes, which always had enough stopping power for my needs! Also the drums weigh next to nothing (compared to iron drums that is...).
The best part? This cheap cheap cheap rear end only has approximately 73,000 miles on it! Made no noise, ran tight and quiet. New gear oil in it, low mileage, rare drums , and a great gear ratio of at least 3.73...
[EDIT:] Pads are pretty good, drums are excellent, no ridge at all around the edge. Plenty of life left in the brakes.
And I will let it go complete for the cheap price of $50. Just come get it out of my garage! (Hey, I'll even help ya load it into whatever you bring to get it!) If this deal fails to satisfy any of you, I will be stuck doubling my price and putting it on craigslist... I would much rather help a crewbie in need (or want) than scam some c/l loser out of $100 bucks So come and get it!

I'm almost tempted to buy it and hang onto it. _________________

Yeah, pretty much the only problem with it for me is the lack of posi. That and I drive 70 miles a day (freeway) with my Camaro... 3.23 helps out just a little...
I figured I'd let you guys have first dibs on it for real cheap cause I don't need it and I got a great deal on the '98 rear, so I'm in a benevolent mood . And the whole spirit of the crew, everybody helping everybody, you know. I plan to meet all you guys someday. Probly going to Cows this year actually, I can't wait for that.
Seriously, if I was me I'd buy it from myself just in case. Worth it for just the gears, and I saw a guy selling aluminum drums on TGO today for $100, just the drums.
I know somebody wants this thing. |

ohhh.. it's an aluminum drum rear. those are nice. i almost wish i still had drums on the GTA. i can't get it to lock the rear wheels, but my v6 car with aluminum drums will do 180*s till the tires are flat. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

| I wonder if the s-10 drums are the same as the thirdgen ones. Those would be a nice addition. |

Paul, they should be the same drum. They're the same shoe set. You can still pick up brand new ones aluminum drums for ~30-40 a piece.
Chris, you're picking this up? Would've liked to grab the gears from it. |

Yeah, I"m just working on talking a buddy into letting me borrow his Ford Ranger so I can go pick it up.
Paul, if you want to "loan" (read: yourself also) the jeep and trailer on a Saturday or something, you can have the drums and any of the brake hardware you need. _________________

Awesome! Chris, coming to pick it up maybe? It'll be great to have it out of the garage. Just let me know in a PM or something... or I'll PM you my number. Glad to see somebody will do something with it, I know I'm letting it go waaay too cheap .
And yes, aluminum drums rock. It stopped like nothing else, could lock the tires all around as easy as you would want, but with great control if you didn't wanna lock it up. My old Camaro SC with iron drums wouldn't hardly lock anything, even on wet pavement. lol |

We could probably do that. Chehalis isn't too far. If it has the sway bar like in the pick, I wouldn't mind that too!
Hell I'd love the gears but I bet those are spoken for hehehehhe. |

chime'in'.
Saturday is super busy for me this week. Alphius, you have a PM.
Paul, if you want the drums and brake hardware, lets work something out. I have to tow off the G/F's Volvo, but we can work something out.
I'm a little on the poor side since I just bought a pick up truck, but I can still afford the rear. _________________
