I have a set of motive gears new.
3:73
series two carrier only!!!!
tried to use them on a series one carrier with the shim, but couldn't get them setup, so I bought the series one style gears.

Well we tried two use these gears in our rear end that was in our 87z28.
To do that we had to buy the special spacer that mounts behind the ring gear, the spacer is about .375 or so think.
This set was for the newer style carrier, I believe it is called a series two, or is it a series three, crap I don’t remember.
They are 3.73, 7 5/8, pretty much brand new except being setup and inked for pattern, and never ran.
I paid close to $170 bucks plus shipping.
Don’t be shy, make me an offer….

Since it seems like you dont know, I'll scool ya.
gear ratio's 3.07 and lower are considered "2-series". Mainly 2.xx gear ratio's. This is because the pinion gear has to be so big it moves the ring gear towards the driver side.
gear ratio's 3.10 and higher are "3-series". Mainly 3.xx ratios. The ring gear has to be moved to the passenger side because the pinion gear is too small.
Respectively, there are 2 and 3 series carriers. So, if you put a 3 series gear on a 2 series carrier, the pinion and ring gear would never touch cause the 2 series is set to the driver side too much. Which is why they have "thick crown" gears. The thick crown lets you put a 3 series gear (3.10-4.10) on a 2 series carrier.
The other way to do it is with a "ring gear spacer". I've been told that this is not the strongest way to go since the bolts are longer for the ring gear. I've been running one in my V6 car for a year now. _________________ E30

Thanks
Yes the ring gear is thicker or thinner. that’s it. Its that simple!
You can buy thicker gears like we did for the same price, on the 2nd set. For the series two carrier. They work way better than the spacer.
It took me about 10 minutes to install the gears without the spacer, way easy. but you have to have a couple indictors that can read down to .001
We are done with this rear-end, when it breaks we will be doing a 9 inch.
10 bolt 7 5/8 are ok but not like a 9 inch. |

When I first set up my 4.10's I Ebayed my gears for cheap and they were for a 3 series carrier. I had a 2 series posi so I installed them with a ring gear spacer. 1 year later at Cows the posi carrier pretty much grenaded in the rear end. Brandon gave me an open 3 sereis carrier so when I got home I disassembled the rear end, cleaned everything, and reinstalled the gears with out the ring gear spacer. Another year later I got a 3 series posi and installed it.
I would never buy the thicker ring gear if I had a 2 series carrier, the spacer works fine. Later if you have a problem with the carrier it would suck to be limited to a 2 series or buy new gears. Plus I don't think there is a strength issue with the spacer.
Just my 2 cents. |

I still have these.
Re cap,
these fit a series 3 carrier without a spacer.
They will also fit a series two carrier with the spacer. and yes I have a spacer, it goes with.
You will need new carrier bolts.
Make me an offer.
thanks
