I don't think this is enough belt contact.

Got the alternator bracket on. Now I need to decide what to do with then PS pump. Shave the bracket down or buy/make a new one so I can sell the complete serp setup.

And holy crap does it open up the engine bay. The motor looks a lot taller now that I can see the heads.

Might work, but i'd like more wrap around that myself. I dont think the water pump actually has a whole lot of drag on it though. Is the pulley a smooth or grooved pulley? And which direction water pump do you have on it? If its the stock rotation pump for your year that will be turning it backwards.

What bracket is that?

I need to move my alternator down like that to make room for a couple of M90 superchargers....

The water pump I swapped from an earlier style so it rotates the correct way. It only squeals at 5k. So...instead of a shift light, it's a shift squeal. Laughing

My stock water pump didn't have a bolt hole for the turnbuckle down below.

i have been looking to do the same thing for a while. but i don't like the idea of having so little belt contact on the water pump.

No way... no how... no good. That's not even close to enough belt wrap! And the fact that it is your water pump makes this a disaster waiting to happen. Get a different belt routing.

I would almost think going back to the counter rotating pump and the smooth pulley would be better. then wrap the backside of the belt around it somehow. May need an upper idler somewhere.. hard to tell with just a pic.

Took a look at it today. Going under the pump looks like it might reduce contact even more, and an idler pulley would be hard, although probably not impossible to mount.

I think Ian is right, redoing the PS pump bracket would probably do the trick. Either lower, or with a smaller pulley.

you can always try different belt routings/belts.
