So, I've been getting the bug to find out just how fast (or slow) my car is, and an offical timeslip would help with that effort.

Thinking it'd be fun to have a "track night" before the end of this month. Tenatively planning on Friday the 22nd or Saturday the 23rd.

Like to know if any of you Portland/Vancouver guys are free that weekend. Even like to have some from up north come down if they feel up to it.

Hey, Im in!

I am planning on attending a car show in Eatonville that same weekend, on the 23rd, but I would leave early/cancel that for an opportunity to see how this car handles at a drag race, considering I aint ever done that before!

Let me know as soon as possible, my new girl would like to go with me to the car show, or the race, which ever.

Details!

I think I am going to a concert Friday night (22). I should be able to make it Saturday. Might give me the motivation to get my nitrous bottle re-certified/filled.

Think the folks and Brandy are throwing a grad party for me on the 23rd. Could make it friday.

Maybe the week after? I'd really like to figure out a way to get my fuel pump before I actually race.

I would be interested in going either on the friday or the saturday. This will be my first time at the track Smile. What do you need to do for preperation before I heard you can only have water in your rad. My battery is just sitting in the tray. Is there a certain way it needs to be secured.

Coolant is fine in your radiator.

Basically you need to have a battery tie down.. .factory or after market.

No leaks (small seaps they tend not to notice)

Throttle bracket is secure and there is a return spring for carbs.

Seat belts work.

Sometimes I get asked for a neutral safety switch, but that only seems to happen to me lol.

And not having a bunch of loose stuff that could flop around inside the car. IE don't have a box of tools on the passenger seat.

If you run 13.99 or faster you need an approved helmet.

I'll be there. Looks like I'll finally get a chance to meet some of you guys. I might see if I can get off work a little early to get in a few runs. BTW 11pm would be early for me.

If it's going to be your first time there are a few things you should be sure of before you leave your house.

-You MUST wear full length pants without any holes in them.
- you MUST wear at least a T-shirt. (no cut offs or tank tops)
- Battery must be secure.
- coolant overflow container
- no leaks from anywhere on the car.
- T-tops must be on. (so don't leave them at home)
- must have functioning running and brake lights
- no loose items in the drivers compartment
- if you are running slicks then you must have a drive shaft loop.
- SNELL 2000 or newer helmet required with any open top vehicle (not including T-tops) or if you run 13.99 or quicker.
- valid drivers license
- 18 or older or have a signed consent form from a parent or guardian
- at 11.49in the 1/4 or 8.59 in the 1/8th the following are required:
~ roll cage
~ fire jacket
~ 5 point safety harness (if you have an after market racing harness then It must be SFI approved and less than 2 years old).
- at least 4 lug nuts on a 5 lug car
- if your car is louder than 90dB at WOT then you can't race past 10pm
- must have a muffled exhaust
- if you have relocated the battery to the rear then it must be contained in a Moroso sealed battery box (no those cheap marine boxes won't work) and a cut off switch acceptable and labeled on the rear of the car
- Neutral safety switch and reverse lockout.

you can race without a hood.

here's the link to PIR's drag racing site. There are some more links on the page if you have any more questions or need more clarification on the ET requirements.

http://www.portlandraceway.com/drags.asp

All Racers $23 If it's you first time racing or you haven't been to PIR for over 365 days then bring $10 for registration.
all spectators $8

THAT, depends on the inspector. (ask me how I know) Doh!

I had somehow forgotten a lug on 1 wheel, after much debating with them, i was able to run as long as that one was on a front wheel, but it took me about 30 minutes of discussion and a couple of techs.

Interestingly, I don't understand why they only 4 on one of the fronts. Personaly I would rather have my braking wheels, than my drive wheels.

Ok, so I need to do four things before this event.

1. Get more details

2. I need to secure my battery

3. learn where to launch my car

4. Figure out where real red-line is compared to where my Tach says it is (My tach thinks I idle at 1200)

you auto won't let you red line by much. even if you have to run 20 zipties around it you MUST have a battery hold down.

I have a bit of an oil drip that only leaks when the vehicle is shut off. Doesn't leak when idling. Everything else should meet tech criteria.

Can I still race DBL_TKE?

Eh, just have me tech you in. Honestly if it's just a small occasional drip you'll be fine. I have a small oil drip as well (about once every 20 seconds) and I'm fine. If its not noticeable on the ground after about 5 minutes of sitting you'll be fine. Besides, even though we are supposed to check all this stuff, quite a bit gets by us sometimes. Just avoid the big with the shaved head, we don't call him the "Tech God" for no reason. Wink
