1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

PostPosted: Tue May 15, 2007 12:11 pm    Post subject: 500+ hp Tpi possible ?? Reply with quote

Well, we got paid for that hit and run about 3 months ago, what a pain in the *ss
But in the end we got what they said it was going to cost to fix it.
$4,300 Bucks wow. Pretty good, for a car we paid $1,000 for.
I still can't believe it.

So now we are on a quest…… to find a formula to build a stealth ram engine to 500 hp..

We need to move on this soon, so we can drive this thing this summer.
I have been looking at the Dart pro 1 alum heads.

We have a nice 400 sbc block, high nickel/tin block
And we have the late model 350 roller block we just took out.
We have decided to buy another car, (yep, a jap car) and our vert Camaro will not be an everyday driver anymore. Never thought we would do that, but it’s going to happen.

Could use either one of our blocks what would you do? And why?

I found an article that car craft did on a 540hp 383, was interesting, but with a carb not FI.

Not to many formulas for Multi port and 500hp result.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
scott

Yeah, but that is to the wheels. 370 to the wheels is probably 450-460 HP at the motor. He is working on some stuff to get some more out of it, but it will give you a good idea of what all is needed for that kind of power. You will also notice, that there isn't much left stock on that car, SO much stuff has to be done to make that kind of power, and have the car hold up.

ya, that’s sweet.

For sure we will not run Nos, but could go procharger.
But that article at cart craft, they made 540hp with no Power adders.
I think it ended up costing 4,800 bucks..

Not to bad if it’s true.

Those magazine articles, i don't know how they do it, and it doesn't really talk about application. Making that power once, on a dyno is one thing. Making a motor that lasts, and building up the rest of the car handle it, is the hard part.

what Dewey said +1.

my GTA blew a 9bolt rear with a STOCK engine. Paul was breaking stock 10 bolts with 300+HP like they were made of plastic. and we have all seen what happens to stock transmissions with real power. you may be able to make the engine for 4800, but be prepared to spend some on built tranny and rear ends as well.

..... by the way, congrats on the dough and good luck with the build. Smile i look forward to seeing what you are able to come up with.

Ya thanks.
ya planning on doing the car as well.
looking at cages, and rears.
Its going to be a garage queen.... lol.....
But 500 hp is a little out of reach without power adders.
I looks like a 4.00 stroke is a little to much 40 a 400 block.
I have already received info from a few machine shops.
So looks like 3,875 stroke is all we could go on a 400 block without going after market.
shoot we may end up stroking the 350 with a 3.875 crank.
waiting on another machine shop.

we are looking for max cubes in a sbc , right now.

Well I talked with one guy who said for sure we could put a 4.00 stroke crank in our 400 block, with clearancing the block for the rods and using a small base circle cam, so we may do it.

427 cu. small block. Might make 500 hp.
With those dart pro heads.

You could do it with a 383. With a 427, 500hp should not be much of a problem. That is less than 1.2 hp per ci.

Once you start getting into less common configurations the price goes up steep. I started out wanting to build a 434 sbc but my wallet didn't like it.

Good luck. I look forward to seeing your build up.

-Schultzy

Edit: Are you looking for 500 hp at the flywheel or rear wheels?
