the output of a VSS w/ a DVOM?
Since popping the t56 back in I haven't had a working speedo. SGI-5 Box is getting good power and good ground. I messed up the connector to the VSS when yanking the trans one of the many times so it might also be that but I'd like to slap a DVOM on the input and output terminals to measure the supposed 2k ppm or whatever it should be but what settings should I put it on? _________________

The options are hard to make out but the AC selections are in the upper right and it had 500 and 200.
Which do you think would work better? |

| It should be AC Sinewave (multimeter should work fine) but it needs to be on a small scale. It would be better to measure the frequency instead of the voltage. The voltage should be no more than around 5Vac, but the frequency is what changes. Should be 2000 or 4000 pulses per mile. |

2000 or 4000 pulse per mile isn't a very high frequency. At 60mph, 4000 pulse per mile is 4000 pulses per minute or about 67Hz. _________________ 92 Camaro

I feel like santa's little helper from the Simpson's. Mop mop mop mop mop mooop. I can see what you guys are saying but I make no connection to how I can visualize that on my tool.
Either way, I think my SGI 5a box is bad. I get a signal in, a sporatic .5 something when I've got it at AC 500, and nothing at all when it's on the signal out terminal. |

| I was hoping you would chime in Al. But ya, unless he runs a true RMS meter it will be insensitive to anything but 60hz. Frequency measurement would be the easiest way to see if it functions. however, a simple check of sensor resistance would probably be ample? Its just a magnetic pickup sensor so it should have resistance if it works, open if broken. I'm just speculating. |
