Trying to get this VSS thing nailed down before I pull the 700R4.

I traced the VSS signal from the module on the back of the gauge cluster back to the wire on the connecters behind the cluster. According to the GM manual the slot is marked 'VSS Buffer Signal'. It has two solid brown wires coming out of it, I assume one for cruise and one for the ECM.

Has anyone tried to splice into these wires before? My current theory is that I could cut both brown wires, and splice both of them (no idea which is which) into the signal out on my Dakota Digital buffer, then run the signal from the new trans right to the box.

Is this possible? Anyone tried it before?

I've tried to use that wire to make the speed controlled volume (SCV) on my radio work. Either it doesn't work in the radio (common problem I've heard), or the TBI 2000 pulse per mile is not enough to make it work.

The input wire to the ECM should be in the C1 connector, pin A10. It is a brown wire in the harness connected to the ECM.

Thanks, Al. Do you know if the connectors are marked C1/ect.? Or do I need to check it on the wiring diagram to find the right one? There are three or four big connectors right at the ECM harness.

I found its location using the wiring diagrams on TGO's electrical forum. The connector is the smaller 24 pin connector, mine is labeled wit "A" and "B" on the ends with the numbers for the corresponding pins. The other connector is a 32 pin connector with "C" and "D" marked on the ends.

I went out and looked at it just now, and I pulled the two clips down from the ECM. It looks like the row marked '10' on the smaller clip has a brown wire in it.
