Well I think I scored a sweet find this week. A friend of a friend is parting out a mid 70's El Camino so I went over there to see if there was anything good. It had the bigger 8.5" 10 bolt rear end with 4.10 gears and posi. I bought it for $100, might just have to make a bigger rear end for the car now. While we were standing there bs'ing I look in his junk pile and there is a 7.5" 10 bolt posi carrier laying there. He said something about getting it out of a 90's Camaro rear end that he took the disc setup off of. Asked him what he wanted for it and he said just take it. Stuck an axle in it tonight and it is for 26 spline axles, so now Jen's car will have posi, for free.
It was a good day.
ps, watch out for Jenn at Cows, she has been doing a little burnout practice and getting better. |

Awesome find Rod. Is the larger 10 bolt the same dimensions as the 10 bolt in the camaro now in terms of width or will you have to modify the thing?

Mike, I really don't know yet on the width. I haven't brought it home yet. Looks like there is an 8.2" and an 8.5" so I'll need to determine which it is. I have the rear end out of Bart's old TA that I can take all of the mounts and stuff off of. Also it might sit in my storage for the next 10 years. |
