just for fun, i was wondering what's the better car:
trans am or camaro? pontiac vs chevy.
try to be factual here.
just based on factory specs and options, no aftermarket add ons, or special edition "one of kind" cars, what's the best third gen?
lets try not to argue ....
i ask because there seem to be a lot of different options and trim packages available for these cars.
firebirds, se, trans am, formula, gta, rs, iroc, etc.......
what do you guy think? _________________ we all gotta start somewhere.... |

Chris and i came to the conclusion the other day that if you are going for pure performance.... TTA all the way. however he also mentioned that was ONLY because the "ZR1" heritage edition anniversary Camaro was never released to the general public. to wit i replied
if you discount the TTA because it uses a Buick power plant then the firehawk. |

| When did a formula ever leave the factory with an LS6? As close as I am aware, the only thing close was some 01-02 cars, that got LS6 intakes, but never the full LS6 treatment. |

i'm sorry i though we aere talking about thirdgens. which never left the factory with an LS6 or a DZ302 i'll shut up about it now.
EDIT**
i found an article that was a comparison test between the GT Mustang, IROC Camaro and Trans-AM GTA Firebird.
the GTA was faster but ONLY becasue the magazine tested the cars at "base" trim (base for IROC and GTA that is) and the IROCs 3.27 rear end was an option, where as it was the ONLY rear put in a GTA. had the IROC been equiped with the same rearend its additional 5HP and 300 pound lighter body would have made it the winner of the race.
the article is mostly about which car is more fun to drive though.

TTA....is that a touring trans am?
other than that, the '69 z/28 doesn't count, nor does the LS6.
let's keep it to 3rd gens.
other than "beef" under the hood, what about other options? _________________ we all gotta start somewhere.... |

The TTA is the turbo trans-am, it had a 3.8L Turbo 6cyl. they are bloody fast.
I am partial to the Camaro with GFX's but I do like the GTA's. |

The Camaro and Firebird are the same car. The only difference between them is cosmetic and interior trim features. So the question of which one is better is simply a matter of preference.
The only exception is the '89 turbo Trans Am (TTA) with the 3.8L Buick turbo engine. I guess another exception is the SLP built Firehawk sold through dealerships. Hmmm.... I guess the Firebird was a better car. |
