Rolled out to Garraways Auto Parts in Sapanway Washington today, since I know they have a few decent Camaros left on their lot. Everything was pretty picked over, but I did snag a set of fourth-gen pedals.
There was a white LT1 Z28 sitting on the lot. Pretty smashed up, but it still had the LT1 under the hood. Someone had snagged the 4L60E from behind it, and had left the engine sitting on it's front on the radiator support. Didn't ask about the price, but it might be worth a call for those of you looking to swap.
They also had a fourth-gen five-speed that seemed to shift fine, and what looked like a crossfire hood (although it might have been an IROC hood with no louvers, I didn't get a good look).
BTW, how hard is it to clean a set of seatbelts? I found a set of grey fourth-gen belts but they were modly as hell, so I left 'em. Will some Simple Green bring it out? |

bleach kills mold. i think color safe bleach will also do the job. i used this to make my 86 safe to drive to the detail shoppe so they could chemically remove it. |

Will that damage the cloth at all? I don't want to weaken the belts, I'll probably need them at some point. |

Where in Spanaway is that yard? Perhaps TJ and I have to make a run out there this weekend. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Take Pacific to the Roy-Y and swing left through the intersection. It's about a mile further down WA-7, on the left. It's a little past the gas station, but if you see WalMart you've gone a block to far. Big metal building with a gravel lot out front.
*Edit: Street address is 19919 Mountain Hwy E. so you can Google it. |

When you get ready to put those 4th gen belts in let me know. I just finished my 4th gen belt changover. I can't tell you how much nicer they work than my old ones. To me this rates right up there with SFC's as an upgrade. |

That much of an improvement? I'm going to have to add that to the list. I'm planning on doing it while I have the headliner torn down. |

Yes, a major improvement. My stock belts kept catching and took several tries to get them extended so I could hook them up. Then sometimes they wouldn't retract back and tighten up. I kept buying new (used) belts and all of them failed after a short time. With two retractors there are a lot of moving parts to wear out. With the 4th gen belts there is only one top retractor and it works so much better. Not to mention the 4th gen belts are still available new.
But when you do change over to the 4th gen belts, if you have a 83 or newer car, there will be a huge hole in the sill plate where the bottom retractor was. This is solved by using the 82 style sill plates. Pic is of the 4th gen belt and 82 sill plates, and below that a comparision of the different style sill plates.

Yeah, I saw you mention that in the other topic. I've kept my eyes open, but I haven't seen any 82's in the yards around here. |

Hey alloy, when you do the 4th-gen belt swap, do you need to keep the belt clips on the other sides of the seats, or do you reuse the old ones? Is it even possible to install the later belt clips?
Mine are the recalled kind, and they haven't given me any trouble yet, but I figured I'd fix them while I was messing around with the belts anyway. |

Hey aaron,
Don't mean to butt in, but I found out that not all the cars had defective seatbelts in that recall...if they work, then you lucked out, but if you change them out anyways, have fun!

You use the 4th gen belt and the buckle end also. The new belts won't fit in our old buckles. |
