this might sound like an obvious question, but i've never heard of one before:
what exactly is a rear pull down motor? _________________ we all gotta start somewhere.... |

Not all thirdgens have it. It's an option.
If you have to SLAMMMMMMMMM yours down... you might have a motor down there.
If you can bring the the hatch down and give it a little push to latch it, you don't have the motor.
Easiest way is to look! |

You just lightly push down till it latches on to the hatch then it pulls it down. Actually pretty cool i think. _________________ Thirdgenless |

You the latch clasp rides on a track that the motor raises up above the quarter panels, you close it until it clicks around the clasp and the motor pulls it down tight. Kinda cool if ya ask me. |

PK...
as far as I'm aware, it was put on most or all 86-92 F-bodies. I'm not sure if it was an option on 82-85's.
My Berlinetta has it, but my old 84 sport coupe, and my 85 Z/28 didn't have it. _________________

i don't think it has one now....or it's broke.

nothing of that "movement" happens the way it is now.
where would it be located?

The relay on my pull down motor went out a few years back and now I have to really slam the hatch, sometimes two or three times, to get it to close. Don't know why I never just replaced the relay. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Good chance of that. I have a 89 and 91 and both are bad. |

I got one on my 89, but there is not one on my 85. The 87 bird that I have for a parts car didnt have one either. If you have one, slamming the hatch down sure isnt good for it . _________________

When mine went out, the motor continued to run after the hatch was closed so I disconnected it. I guessed that it was the relay, but never really bothered to check. |
