So I went out to start the Berlinetta today....

Its idling really funny like it has a serious timing miss doesn't smooth out at all. Paul set the timing at 6 degrees with 28 degrees advance and it hasn't changed since then (unless there's a problem with the dizzy).

After it idles for about a minute or two the oil pressure is pegged at 60psi and then it dies.

Its hard to start after that until the motor sits for a few minutes.

What the hell?

The second time I put a replacement Mechanical fuel pump in, I put it in wrong and bent the push rod to the pump. I replaced the rod, before I put the pump back in. Is it possible that there's serious damage to the cam? Could that be what's causing the funny idle and high pressure?

I drained all the oil out of the car. Looks like there was quite a bit in there...maybe 5 1/2 quarts...probably closer to 6. I watched it all drain out, I couldn't see any metal shavings or chunks in the oil...I dunno.

anyone have any ideas?

Not sure on the oil pressure.

If you wiped the cam lobe out it shouldn't just effect pressure... just metal shavings everywhere and no fuel pressure.

I didn't set the max timing at all. I didn't set it at 6 either. I set it to what sounded good Cool

My idle oil pressure is around 70psi cold, and 20psi hot.

Well tried 4 new quarts of 10-30 today.

Kept acting like it was hydrolocked when I'd try rotating it with the starter

I rotated the motor over twice by hand and got TDC mark on the pointer and the balancer lined up again.

Recharged the battery, and it fired again very easily. Even filled up the coolent reserve bottle again (didn't know how much was in the engine and the radiator).

I let her idle for a few minutes. didn't seem to sputter or miss. Initally she idled high, and then once pressure built up, Idle dropped down to what I would guess is between 700 and 1000rpm.

oil pressure went up to about 60psi and then dropped between 45-55psi.

I think the problem is solved (read: hope) but if anything comes up, I'll repost.

Just fired it again....seems to idle irratically again...... but fires easily.

I'm sooo confused.... Confused

I wish I just knew what was wrong. I checked the plugs too....none seem to be significantly fouled.
