Ok,
Iam just about ready to order gages,

Iam looking at summit for the Autometer 5 inch dia. Ultra light (maybe I should go with the 3.5 dia), they have two of them, electronic and mech speedo's, Both appear to have the .104 square drive hole for the speedo cable. so what is the difference in the two types?
We have an 88 Camaro so, do we have the electronic gage in it now.??

88 should still have a mechancical speedo. If you went with the electric gaugue, you would need to get the VSS sensor from an electical speedo car (86+ firebirds, or 90+ camaro).

If you go back and look at my pictures... the tach and speedo are the 3.5" models.

You want the mechanical... unless you convert to vss like john said. Which I actually recommend.

With the electric, you never have to worry about what gears are in the back or the speedo gears. You just press a button, drive by mile marker, press the button again and you're calibrated.

its that easy to calibrate?????
Doesn’t matter what rear end and what Speedo gears..

So do you have a speedo cable??????
How hard is it to switch to a electronic VSS ????
Iam thinking there must be a wire that hooks to the speedo gears or the cable, then to some box that converts to electronic pulses????
Where can I find some info on that one??

I have another question on the gage,:

How come you didn't go with the 5.00 dia?
I think the stock gages are 5.0, was it because there wasn't enough room in the dash for the other gages?
Looks like a 5 dollar difference in price.

Iam thinking we are going to build a panel in a different location for the other gages.

I would look on TGO, I think you should be able to use a factory VSS sender, it just replaces the speedo cable. I do not know if you need to change the gears inside the tranny or not, but either way, I think you will need to pull the tranny, to take the cable out, and put the VSS sender in.

I have never been a fan of that hood on any thirdgen, especialy Camaro's. But it is his car. I would go with the SS scoop, or a Cervinis Cowl Hood.

But it looks like we are going to get the G&t Ram air hood/ as soon as I can get a hold of them. I want to know if the got an unfinished hood on the shelf.....I need it here in time for x-mas....The kid likes the aggressive look of that ram air hood, best one I have seen yet anyway. So we will try and buy one of there unfinished hoods, I think the bolt on, But he wants hood pins up front. I guess we could make it a lift off, what do you think???

Also, another question about gages. For the o2 sensor air/fuel
I have been looking at some that have a digital read out; will they work with a narrow band o2 sensor????and will it work with a wide band o2 when we upgrade???
What one do I need? Looks like some have different voltage inputs??

When I had my 72 malibu with the factory cowl hood, I had hinges, hood latch and hood pins. The hood just shut down over the pins, then you could lock it down.

Ya, man every time I look at this thread and the pic of the hood above, OHHH Man that’s nice.
To bad I can't show that pic to my son. Guess he will have to wait..
Ordered that baby today, sweet……. he has been talking about that hood for a few days now....hhehehe.
And yes, got hood pins coming as well, will use them and all the other hardware. But they will be just for looks, he likes the way those hood pins look.
