No doubt about it... there's a little snow in Illinois today. We had freezing rain all day yesterday for a nice 1/2-inch layer of ice. Overnight that was topped off with a minimum 10 inches of snow with 4 more inches to come later today. Combine that with 40 mph winds and I found the Cherokee buried up to the bumpers this morning.
So with nobody going to work today there was an impromptu competition between my neighbors to get out of the driveways. One neighbor finally got his 3/4 ton 4x4 Chevy with rear locker out of the driveway after 30 minutes of attempts. Another tried with his X-Terra 4x4 and finally gave up. Then it was my turn.... 2000 Cherokee, 3-inch lift, and BFG all terrain tires. Two unsuccesful attempts in 4-low, then switched to 4-high and climbed right out. Jeep still rules this city block. |

At least you are finding good way's to entertain yourselfs while stuck at home.
This is about the most snow we have had in portland in the last decade. This was 2 years ago.
Not even quattro got me out of that mess. It was about 8" of snow, with an inch of freezing rain on top of it. It was nasty. |

AWD is nice but if you're pushing snow then the show is over. I finally got the Subaru out this afternoon after beating down the drifts with the Jeep. I've never had the AWD Subaru in snow yet. It's pretty good and feels like it has a RWD bias which makes for a nice feel and predictable handling. I think we're going to be pretty happy with the Subaru! |

Well, I was wrong.... official numbers are 2-inches of ice and 11-inches of snow. I thought there was an aweful lot of ice built up on the wipers this morning. Had to break out chemicals to get defrosted.
Fortunately, we still have electricity and aren't among the 2 million people without power today. That's definitely going to create some problems as the high temp tomorrow is projected in the single digits. |
