I have a turbo off an '86 dodge daytona. Does anyone know if it is possible to swap into my camaro? _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. Decided not worth it. |

It is but I believe that turbo would be to small for even a smaller CI. like a 305. It wouldn't flow enough to boost properly. _________________

I know thats why im sayin it is going to be too small. If I remember right the turbo I believe was a garret T25 or something along those lines I could be mistakin. They had very small housings. It would spool extremly fast but would be all wheezed out by the time you would really need it. What kind of motor are you thinking about turboing? _________________

T04-E ----> T25
I don't know the exact specs off the top of my head, but I think the T25 is like 43/60 or something. Your 3.1 would spin that up way too fast.
*Edit: I guess not. Looks like Mopar went with the 45-trim T03 Garrett.... which is still way to small. Plus it probably has a built in wastegate preset to about 4psi.
*Edit: Wrong again.... | Quote: | | 85'-87' computer controlled single port wastegate actuator. |
Try going to http://www.turbofast.com.au/turbomap.html
Punch in your specs, and fool around with it a bit. |

Just to point out, find the right size turbo, is the easiest part of the project.
This has been discussed over, and over, over. Fabricating the header, and intake plumbing, along with the tuning and electronics part, it MUCH harder. |

Very true. However a full machine shop in your backyard does kinda help with that. |

A turbo would be a great idea, but you would seriously destroy your engine if you just slapped one in there. You would need to remap your ECM to handle positive intake pressure and get bigger injectors at least. Then, when your 3.1 is making 250ftlb of torque at 6psi, what happens to your tranny or clutch? If you have a high mileage 700r4, kiss it goodbye. Lots to look into before you do it. If you want a "fast" camaro, buy one with a 350 already in it. It will last way longer than anything you could possibly do to a V6 if all you want to do is straight line.
I'm not hating, cause I want to do it too, but you really need to make the car prepared to handle the extra EVERYTHING. My opinion. _________________ E30

Yeah, my tranny has been very very abused in its short life. It always slips, doesnt shift right, and when i first drained my tranny fluid, it was all black. When i first changed the tranny filter, and i cleaned the bottom of the pan, it was all clutch material. I'm sure shifting into 1st at 60mph wasn't that great for it either. And ppl ask how i know it was in 1st? because in 2nd it's at i believe... 4k rpms? Maybe 4500. Anyways sorry to get off track. no point in putting a turbo in, i was just curious as to whether or not it was possible, if i should even bother screwing with it. Machine shop is almost exactly 1 mile away from my house. It's not in my back yard. However i have a 3 car garage, and 4 car ports at my house. The garage has doors on it big enough to fit semi's anyways we could make a thread about this crap in gen discussion if its really all that necessary. _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. | Well, on the bright side, you can find V6 trannies just about anywhere, since almost no one wants them. Where is your trans slipping, 1-2, or 2-3? |

| Same thing mine did. Swap it out now while you still have some grab in third. Moving a car you can't drive over 35mph becomes kind of a pain in the ass. |

if 2nd gear does go out, will it still shift 1-3? and just skip 2? _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. Decided not worth it. |

| No. If the 2-3 pack goes out, you will lose third and overdrive. |
