wow, brandon and whoever else said it... you were right! my car is sitting at 2X* of advance! it is way past the marks... looks like about 23* instead of the 10* it is supposed to be.
i still cannot get that bolt loose that allows the dizzy to move. i finnaly figured out that it is a 15MM an my 15MM wrench is busted. (i broke it trying to open the drain plug on my T5). so tomorow i am going to buy a new wrench. |

| Its hard to get to, but you have to reach it from the passenger side with a wobbly. And you need to pull the forward most connector out of the distributor. Good Luck! Its a real pain to set the timing, especially if you have the emissions tube back there as well. If you loosen the nut and put it back together, you can start the car, set the timing, shut off the car, and then tighten it back up. Thats what I usually end up doing at least. |

Just put the new distributor in and set my timing last week. Yeah 15mm not 9/16 like every other dizzy holddown on Earth! Ended up using two universals (I think what you call wobbles). What a PITA! You must be getting crazy detonation with your timing so advanced! Mine was just at 12* and was detonating in the upper RPMs. One thing to remember, the 60* V6s #1 sparkplug is on the passenger side unlike the V8. The first time I checked my timing, I connected the timing light to the #2 plug wire and couldn't figure out why the timing was so far off! _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

I think everyone has messed that up at one point in there life. But ya, its the passenger side (most forward piston).
One wobble, 15mm socket, and about a 12" extension. Just remember to watch the Ignition Module and the connectors, you can break them pretty easy. |

well, i got it with a wobble. (not a universal joint, a woggle is an extension with a slightly rounded tip, allowing the socket to "wobble" on the end, it gives youb about 25* of motion to play with, and is also verry compact.)
it is at about 11* now intead of 10*. i could not get it to 10* with the socket in there and i could not get the socket in there without moving the dizzy... so it's 1* of extra advance
now it's off to the junkyard. while waiting for the engine to cool a bit i relocated some wires, and now i need to extend a connector harness for my power sterring pressure plug and my fan. |

| I always called universals, wobblers... and people knew what I was talking about. |
