All that I can say is WOW, now, I don't know that the general public in Oregon would do much better. But, wow. _________________

| This is why I moved to Illinois. If they aren't smart enough to follow basic driving guidelines you think they are smart enough to read, think, and drive at the same time? |

the signs should just say "maintain a 2 second following distance". (i like 3-4 on the highway, but that might just be me). it does not take a degree in city planning to count the ammount of time between yourself and another driver. when they pass a line count until you pass a line. since you are counting the time, not the dots, it will relate to the speed, not the distance.
one thing i will say for washingtons DOT, they do some things up there i wish Oregon would do.
two Examples:
A.those signs that tell you to pull damaged cars to the side of the road before exchanging insurance info. in oregon i have seen people stop IN THE FAST LANE to exchange info after a mild fender bender. it's bad enough when they stop in the middle of surface streets, but the freeway... come on
B. signs along the HOV "carpool" lane with a number to call to rat people out. oregon has no such hotline, or if they do they sure don't advertise it. |

I hate that rule.........you'll get a bunch of people on there cell phones to "rat" people out, who wont be paying as close attention to the road, thus resulting in more unaware drivers and a greater potential for traffic accidents.
I don't care if someone uses the carpool lane who's in a hurry, it keeps them from tailgating me. _________________

| The problem tends to be the people on their brakes at the last second, not the spacing... |

and people wouldn't have to stop suddenly if they:
1) paid attention to the road and who's around them all the time and drove defensively.
2) gave themselves enough time to stop safely and/or reaction time or space between vehicles _________________
