so, both chris and i are fans of the "optionless" cars. i just did a radio delete on my firbird and made a delete plate,
and i had made one for his 84 SC a while back. anyway, here are some pictures of them.

Here is the Camaro Radio delete plate.

And of course the Firebird Radio delete plate

and a shot of the backsides of the both of them

i used JB weld to hold the parts on. i was going to use ABS plastic glue, but unfortunatly it was the one adheisive
my dad does not have in his garage, i expect any future delete plates to be much better looking from the back, and to
not have any JB weld poking out to the front (look closely and you can see a bit of it coming through).
if anyone wants one of these i can make one for you. but it's won't be free Very Happy

I'm with stupid

The radio in my T-Bird is busted, and it's been adding to the torture of driving that car. I can't even imagine the point of racing around with the tops off listening to.... nothing. Rolling Eyes

A 2-part epoxy would have worked just fine for that. Maybe even Testors plastic model cement, I used that to glue my fog/driving light switch into the switch panel.

Do it by stealth... mount everything in the center console area and control everything by iPod

Laughing Then not only is it much harder to adjust while driving, but you lose the only interior cargo space in the entire car?

well, no, and yes. the radio i had in my white bird went out long ago, then when i got the GTA it had a total POS radio.
i got a "good" one for it. and put the piece of crap in the six. it always skips on CDs (even after i took it apart and
cleaned it) due to the mounting angle, when i bench tested it (level) it worked fine. so i finaly decided to yank it
out and make that car even more "optionless".

Want anything for that old stereo? I could use a free head unit for my T-Bird.

actualy, since it still worked (when flat) i made a 12VDC portable boom box out of it. long story... picture worth a thousand words...

i started with a plastic file box, cut some holes, inserted the radio, and a 4X6 and a 6X9 speaker (stock crap from the 2.Cool. then i wired it all up to a 12V power plug and made a cord. and it even has a handle. as you can see duct tape was the primary tool used. i mostly made this for use in my dads truck, as it has a tape deck and only one working speaker, but i took it down to kfalls and it was kinda nice. music helps me stay awake on long drives.

i don't know if any of you have ever seen the "bucketsub" that i made a few years ago (search "bucketsub" on TGO) but this is like its brother or somthing.

Bucketsub was nicknamed "box-o-bass"

I dub this invention "box-o-beats"

I actually preffer to use eletrical tape though. Doesn't deteriorate like duct tape, and it's actually stickier. That's about all that's holding my interior door panel together. Completely hidden though, you'd never guess it'd been removed. Very Happy

I just re-read this.....and it reminded me of something...

I had another friend who works for Tap plastics make me a little "delete box" for the 84. I was going to use the mounts for the stereo to hold this in, until Tony suggested that it would be a cool little "cubby" or something if it was turned the other way. Something handy for holding change, a cell phone, a pack of smokes or whatever where the radio deck would be. I think I'll grab another camaro console faceplate out of the boneyard and start experinmenting.....
