so i am driving home a few minutes ago, i push the clutch in and BANG it goes to the floor with a pop. i attempt to let it out and the pedal stays on the floor. i imediatly know what the problem is, the little plastick "lock bushing" the retains the clutch pedal to the piston on the clutch slave cylinder has let go.

this had happened to me once before. i purchased a new one and also purchased a five pack (they only come in five pacs ) of the metal brake pedal retainer clips. i figured if the plastic one ever broke agian i would use the metal ones.

so i RPM shift down into third, and then down into second, then first and pull into a parking lot, then i slam the tranny out of gear and coast to a halt. i then remember that when i sold the v6 (long story, it's back now) i removed the clips and placed them in the GTA, where they still are.

so i do a quick recon and discover about 6 inches of a ziptie in the back, the rest had been cut off. si i get a briliant plan. i remove the metal clip from the brake pedal and place it on the clutch, then i use the zip tie to retain the brake pedal to it's piston. the ziptie was not long enough to go around the clutch pedal, or i would have done that, i would rather know my brakes are good then my clutch.

then i throw the kick pannal and the tools back in the well and drive home. the entire thing took about 10 minutes. i am sure it would last atleast 100 miles. in fact, i bet as long as i replaced the zapstrap now and again i could drive it like this forever... however my 1st task tomorow will be to find the clips in the GTA and fix it right.

Seriously though, every car I own has those holding just about everything together. I probably use them as often as Tony uses duct tape.

I use them all the time too. I buy them in bulk, when the run out, I get more. That reminds me that I need to get more....

They hold all types of wire bundles together, I even use them to hold up the plastic panel under steering column.

yeah.... but this is holding my BRAKE pedal on. i mean... for real. like, it breaks and i have no breaks.

I went through two of those plastic clips on my clutch pedal before I decided I needed to do something else. Got one of the metal ones that they use on the brake pedal and no problems since.

well, just put 168 miles on my new metal retainer, all is well.

on my old 76 dodge truck i had, i had to use a piece of wire to hold the gas pedal onto the linkage. i was flyin up a hill in town and hit the gas and the pedal went to the floor as the truck slowed way down. i was in the middle of a 3 lane road tryin to fix it. the little clip broke when i had pushed the pedal. the truck was a old farm truck i got for 200 bucks off my grandpa. had a 400 in it with a 4 speed. could get 4th gear rubber in that thing all day long. the ass end was light and all but still not bad for a 200 dollar truck that i later sold for 600. if you aint breakin something you aint drivin it hard enough

i hear that. with the massive power i am putting down with that 2.8 i am starting to seperate the doors from the hinges, that or cheverolet sucks at building things. nothing a welder can't fix.

it has been fixed. but thanks chris. i acualy need to get in there again and grease the clutch, it is squeaking when i press it now.
