mechanic says i should buy a new motor cause a piston rod is broke, said he could fix it but would cost more than a decent used engine. any suggestions? _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. Decided not worth it. |

Damn, yeah that'd end your day real quick. |

| My best advice, is to follow your mechanics advice. Get a price quote from, for both a used motor swap, and fixing the one you have. Its your money, I assume when you have the two quotes in front of you, the solution will be obvious. |

After you do that, figure out how much the car itself is worth.
You might actually come out ahead by parting it, and buying a new one. |

current value is around $500 from kbb, body is ok i guess and motor crap. seriously though, would it be worth actually putting a 3.1 in it? as i said in other threads my moms selling an 84? z28 with a carb'd 305, would it be easier to swap? _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. | What shape is the '84 in? Might be easier to keep that one in one piece. |

It would be FAR easier to swap the exhaust, and gauge pods into the Z28 than it would be to swap the LG4 into your car.
However if you want to learn something about cars, get that $350 engine, or your Mom's LG4, drop a non-CC carb on it, and roll. IIRC none of the MPFI computer/wiring stuff will transfer over to TPI. Might be wrong on that though.
Edit: BTW, what do you mean "the way yours sits"? Unless the Z28 is completely sacked out, it should have an equal or better suspension. |

buy your moms car. |

she wants $800 for hers, mine sits higher in the back and lower in the front, i like the color of mine too gah i guess ill tell her ima buy it but ALSO...... her steering column doesnt need a key neither do her doors so im kinda sketchy on leaving it alone for more than about 5 min _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. The door keys are easy. Takes about 30 minutes per door, assuming you drop the C-clip down in the door about a dozen times.
Column might be more trouble, but you can probably swap yours in. As for the ride height, why is yours higher in the back? Did you cut the front springs or something? |

its a long story, i wanted mine to sit higher in the back so i went to my dads machine shop and got some iron slabs and some washers and a bolt and jacked up the back on each side used the same number of washer (i think) and made it sit higher and now my suspension is very tight heh cheap fix _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. These are all decisions you have to make yourself but I see several options you might consider.
1. Fix the engine. The is really a cost comparison against option 2. Both will give the same result.
2. Replace engine.
3. Sell it as is and get a different car. Sometimes it's good to cut your losses instead of continuing to drop money into a basket case.
4. Hot rod it and don't worry about a broken engine you won't use anyway. Who cares if the engine is broken if you are going to swap in a V8 anyhow. Again, my advice is to not drop money into a car that is a basket case. You'll have to make that judgement call as I have never seen your car. |

i think id rather just dump money into my moms, i mean its a 305, i can put my rear end in it, swap the dash's, i think it would work, i just bought black out tail lights and installed them too, oh AND my exhaust so id like to if anything have A camaro, and since hers is so cheap and i know i can mod it like crazy why not give it a try? _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more.
