Well it wasn't today, but rather thursday Tony brought over a left axle for me.

We learned that drum axles and disc brake axles are different! The stud flange is larger on the drum brake axle, and thus wont fit inside the disc rotor.

Nothing a lathe and some crazy curly haired guy at school couldn't fix!

Things work great.

Took her out for a drive and there is a little funky sound that's definitely driveline that I can only hear when coming to a stop cause that's when it's slowest and quietest. Not going to worry about it. Cleaned everything out really really well, used synthetic lube this time, ran all over town to find some GM limited slip additive.

Felt less powerful. Then on the way home it got even less powerful, and started a weird off balance vibration.

Get home, pop the valve cover, poly lock backed off an intake.

Phew.

just so I'm not responsible for "misinformation"

Someone told me once that you have to use GM Syncromesh on the later t-5's (my 01 camaro's 5 speed spesifies GM Syncromesh ONLY) and that ATF won't work, kind of like the limited slip addative, because its a different weight or consistancy.

I shared that trivial bit of information with Tony the other day...is this correct?

No. I wasn't sure, so I checked GM's recommended fluids on GM's Dealerworld website (dealer access only) for 01 camaro's, and its says to use DEXRON III ATF.

"Manual Transmission
DEXRONŽ-III Automatic Transmission Fluid"

Hope that helps.

Technically mine has the big sticker that says Dexron II, but obviously III supercedes II. Smile
