ok, I was noticing that my exhaust was a little rich when driving home with the 85/Z last night, and so I went out to tune it today. My "choke" light always stays on, so I think my Mixture control solenoid might be shot. Suprisingly, my Check engine never comes on...it leans out a little when it runs on closed loop, but I can still smell the unburnt gas in it.

Took a timing light over it and it idles right around 800rpm in neutral, doesn't seem to have any sort of misfire, and timing is spot on.

I know basically how to tune a carburator, but never messed with a Q-jet before. A couple questions:

1) Are there mixture adjustment screws, if yes, where would I find them?
2) Someone suggested running a bit of chemtool, to clean any carbon deposits out of the carb and intake..is this a good idea?
3) If a CC Q-jet is anything like the 2bl carb on my V6, replacing the Mixture control solenoid will help lean out the fuel/air mixture, correct? (if it will just stop the "choke" light from being on anymore, I don't really care about that)

Choke light and mixture control solenoid have nothing to do with each other. Sounds to me like the choke isnt working. Make sure its getting power with the key on. If not check the fuse. Also make sure there's continuity through the choke heater coil on the carb. (this is where the choke wire plugs in on the side). You really don't want to mess with any mixture control settings. They don't change anyway. Idle mixture screws are on the base plate, but the carb has to come off and the aluminum plugs removed to access them. Again, shouldnt need to be done. If it's not the choke making it run rich then usually on a qjet the float is sinking. This will need to be replaced then. To check look down the carb with it idling and make sure you don't see any fuel dripping in through the main jets.

Since the choke light is on, I'm putting my money on something wrong with either power supply or choke thermostat(coil).
