tech article on TGO. there was also a good article in in the november or december 2005 issue of "CAMARO POWER" magazine. i remember reading it at the DMV when i titled my GTA. it had a yellow thirdgen camaro on the cover.

Easy repair. If you've never taken a GM Tilt column apart before, get someone who has a little experience. You'll need a steering wheel puller, a couple different sizes of torx bits (and or torx screwdrivers), Phillips screwdriver, a pair of C-clip pliars (needlenose and a screwdriver also will work) and a dose of patience. Behind the turn signal cam there's 4 inverse torx bolts, right on the pivot joint for the tilt mechanisim. One or two may have rattled loose or are flat out missing. My column did that for a while....just be super careful when taking the turnsignal cam loose and ignition switch loose to get to the bolts. Give your self 2-3 hours if you've never done it before. I'd reccomend using Blue Threadlocker on the torx bolts..(to keep em from rattling loose again), but whatever you do DO NOT TAKE ALL OF THE INVERSE TORX BOLTS OUT ALL THE WAY. There's a retainer piece that's threaded you'll lose if you take all of them out, best way is to do two at a time, put the threadlocker on em and tighten em down all the way. If you were a little closer to portland, I could probably help with it. _________________

if it is just a matter of getting the bearings back in. Coat them in vasaline, and put them back in. The vasaline should keep them in place.
I'm am not exactly sure what you are describing though. |

there are some good picks in the GMHTP article, i am gonna see if i can find it online for ya.
also, THIS is why i swaped colums when all that was wrong was a switch, everyone said i was doing it the hard way
ohman... this sucks. i just looked through a bunch of covers of back issues of chavy mags and NONE of them have the yellow RS that was on the cover of the MAG i am thinking of. i also used to have two exploded view diagrams of the colum from a GM parts computer... can't find em....sorry man. i am gonna keep looking but it no look good.

I seem to remember reading the same article tony.......it was either Chevy High Performance or Super Chevy.........I wanna say like June, July or August of 2004....I remember reading it when I was hanging out with my friend Joel at his house before he went off to Oklahoma for college (so before August of 04)..... _________________
